About this deal

Tally numbers started in 1963 and increased every year with new titles published; they ceased being mentioned in about 1974.

joint venture with Verlagsgesellschaft Madsack, Studio Gong Niedersachsen and Brune-Rieck-Beteiligungs. If you want more detailed information about how to identify 1st editions, you’ll find those lists here. The books in this series are not parodies, but instead use the classic format to serve as clear introductions to a wide variety of subjects, generally in the fields of science and history. Part of the Ladybird Expert History of the Second World War series, The Eastern Front 1941-1944, is an authoritative and accessible introduction to the brutal confrontation between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union along a 1,200 mile front. Small format buff matt boards with blue lettering and decs in pictorial dustwrapper; 52pp; colour ills; pictorial map endpapers. Inside, you'll discover how tactics, organisation and new technologies were brought to bear, about the different challenges faced by both the Axis and the Allies, and, above all, the skill, bravery and endurance of those engaged in a contest that was of critical importance to the outcome of the war.

Visiting my family’s house, now inhabited by my sister, the other day, I dug out the heart of my childhood library, my Ladybird Books. From the Blitz to the Battle of the Ruhr, the Bomber War transformed the state of warfare in the twentieth century. An independent company for much of its life, Ladybird Books became part of the Pearson Group in 1972.Our collections include lots of Ladybird books, as well as items relating to the Loughborough factory and the people who worked there. The book drew a threat of legal action from Penguin Group for breach of copyright, and some changes were made to the names of characters and logos, so it could be published as a parody. Written by historian, author and broadcaster James Holland and with immersive illustrations by Keith Burns, THE BOMBER WAR is an accessible and enthralling introduction to these critical battles and their impact on the outcome of World War II.

This set of paperback books and flashcards for children aged 4 to 8 years has everything you could possibly need to give your child a head-start with early learning. Nobody knows where the last digit in the series number comes from; no documentation survives and perhaps it was simply a random number choice. The appeal of Bunnikin, Downy Duckling and other animal characters made the book an instant success. I learned to read in the early 1980s, mostly from books in the local library and second hand and jumble sale finds but I did have just a few new Ladybird books and they are the ones which became my very firm favourites. In October 2015, it was announced that Ladybird books would be publishing its first series of books for adults. It is packed with information about topics children will learn at school, including the Romans, the Tudors, and Victorian Britain.
