About this deal

It has worked perfectly for 8 months then 2 weeks ago it all went wrong. The controller is lit and saying not connected to aerial. I have tried to connect by pressing the 3 buttons but it just says connecting but never does. None of the buttons respond on the controller and my phone was disconnected and says that I need an app to connect. The Pure Go app says that it is too old for my phone. Digital radio plays all the time. Along with the near-identical Kenwood (top), the Pure 400 is the easiest and neatest adaptor to fit, with just two wires to connect: power and aux out. The display and control unit is wireless and battery-operated, so it can be placed anywhere on the dash without needing cables. Once all wired up, you simply switch on the car, fire up your existing radio, select aux-in as the source, switch on the Pure Highway controller, follow the start-up prompts and choose your radio station from the display. Bingo – it works straight away, and my 25-year-old car starts playing 6Music for the first time. What else does the Pure Highway 400 do? Optionally, you can set up a Bluetooth connection to your phone to enable more features. This is definitely worth doing because it means you can stream music from your phone, including with Spotify, Deezer or any other music streaming service. It also provides access to your phonebook to make and receive calls through the car audio system, hands-free, with impressive quality. Installing the Pure Highway 600 is relatively simple. You need a 12V accessory or USB outlet to power the antenna, along with an existing car audio system. This needs to have either an aux input or FM radio – the Pure Highway 600 transmits over both, although the aux option provides better audio quality.

The Pure Highway 400 is one of the best DAB/DAB+ car adapters available in 2017. It’s relatively easy to fit, looks smart and offers better sound quality than you’d get from FM. However, the reception isn’t as strong as it could be, and the adapter is fairly expensive. Alternative adapters to consider The Pure 600 takes a few seconds to find the local DAB stations and then it’s ready to go. Quality is very impressive, though it's obviously dependent on your car audio system and the DAB coverage in your area. Whether you’re new to digital radio or already enjoy the great choice and quality of digital radio at home you’ll love listening in your car with Highway 600. Personal Assistant : Access your smartphone's smart features through Siri or OK Google voice controlThe wireless display is powered by 2x AAA batteries which are provided in the box. Based on our commuter user case and the default 15s display time out the battery life would be around 8months. Bluetooth : A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) 1.4 or above, OPP (Object Push Profile) But some relatively young cars still didn’t have DAB fitted at the factory, and changing the entire stereo for an aftermarket system is expensive and could lose functionality from a built-in infotainment system. Reception was excellent on our test route, with no drop-outs. The Pure also has Bluetooth to connect your phone to play music (including streaming services such as Spotify), but will not allow you to make hands-free calls like the Kenwood. It would have been in with a chance of winning if it hadn’t been so pricey.

The easiest way to enjoy DAB digital radio, Bluetooth music streaming from your mobile and hands-free calling in your car, this clever audio adapter is simple to fit and works seamlessly with your existing in-car audio system. Bauer Media Group consists of: Bauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, The main difference over the Pure Highway 400 also tested here (below) is the addition of a separate microphone and phone connection option, allowing high-quality Bluetooth calls. Yet despite having this extra, the Kenwood is almost half the cost of the Pure. That makes it a bit of a bargain. Good in high strength signal areas, but it tends to become a little patchy outside of densely populated areas. While this is true of DAB in general, compared to the OEM-fitted DAB systems that come in most of the modern cars we test at CAR, the Pure drops out much more frequently, and for longer periods of time. Designed as an easy-fit solution for the millions of vehicles on the road worldwide without digital radio, you’ll find Highway 600 easy to install in your car, you won’t even need any special tools, just a few simple steps and you’ll be up and running.

Note: Once paired with your Bluetooth device, Highway will automatically reconnect whenever it is in range. How long will the batteries of the wireless controller last? Designed as an easy-fit solution for the millions of vehicles on the road worldwide without digital radio, you’ll find Highway 600 easy to install in your car, in most cases you won’t even need any tools, just a few simple steps and you’ll be up and running. Next, you’ll need to put your Highway into USB mode. On Highway’s wireless controller, press the Home button and turn and press the Select dial to choose ‘ SETTINGS’>‘ USB UPDATE’> Confirm by choosing ‘ YES’. The Kenwood KTC looks suspiciously similar to one of our previous Best Buys, the Pure Highway 600, and we’d wager that they are the same device that has been rebranded. That means the Kenwood is easy to fit and works brilliantly, with no drop-outs on our test route.

The Pure Go application does not support cached music (Music on demand stored locally on your mobile device), so a data connection is needed. What is the Go button? If you’re looking for a more discreet way to listen to DAB, then the AutoDAB USB is virtually invisible once installed. Rather than using a separate screen, a small box connects to your car via its USB port. This allows you to scan through stations and select them using the car’s infotainment system, even via the steering wheel remote controls if fitted.

You can either hook up the aux cable or choose an FM frequency for the Pure 600 to transmit over. It defaults to 87.60 FM but can be configured however you choose. Using FM worked fine for us in testing – just tune the existing in-car FM radio to that frequency of the Highway 600 and you’re all set - but an aux-input is a better bet if possible, since it's not prone to interference.

Disconnect the USB cable from Highway’s power adapter and plug it into an available USB port on your laptop. On a normal day before I bought this, I struggled to get once radio station and that's BBC Wilt, and that's because I live in Wiltshire. Heart would come and go at whatever time it suited it. Installing this, I was able to get 70 HD voice clear radio stations. I am definitely flabbergasted. If this setting is not available, to carry on using Highway you’ll need to tell your car to forget your iPhone. How many phones will Highway support in hands-free mode? You can connect simultaneously to your car’s hands free Bluetooth and Highway’s BT music streaming (refer to your handsets BT connection guide). Whilst connected to the pure Go mobile application, the Go button can be used as the `hot key` to trigger your chosen music on demand service and identify music. The music will be streamed to your Highway product using Bluetooth. Can I connect my phone to multiple Bluetooth devices including Highway (i.e. existing hands free car kit and Highway 400)? Reception is excellent and I haven't lost a signal yet, it even stays playing where I use to loose FM radio stations. So anyone interested in adding dab to there car I can highly recommend the Pure Highway.
