About this deal

This novel is complex but easy to follow due to the author's writing. Included in the story, are paranormal events (besides Michael's abilities), a ghost, mystery, family issues, teen issues and alternative realities. I enjoyed the story. It ends with a new mystery for Michael. I am looking forward to reading this series. I thought this book was awesome and has the triumvirate of a five-star book: great characters, great plot, great writing. The story focuses on Michael, a schoolboy whose world turns upside down when he rescues a dog one morning. There is plenty of world-building and character introductions at the start, setting things up for both this book and the rest of the series. However, it's expertly woven into the story to add colour and detail, rather than simply padding out the book. The overarching mystery was nicely done. I was surprised at how dark and graphic it got. I wish it could've been a slower sort of mystery but I was surprised at what was really going on, barring one specific person which I guessed from the vibes I was getting from them and then promptly second guessed myself. I've seen a similar sort of magic system in a book before, and it was no less horrifying here than it was there, which was very fun and added to the tension.

The narrative takes the reader through a twisting and gripping story that hooks you the further you explore the story. You are transported into a supernatural thriller full of danger, action and teenage reality. This makes a fantastic blend that anyone can relate to regardless of age or gender.Overall, I did like this book and I enjoyed myself while reading. It was fast paced and had a really good mystery storyline, and you were waiting for the next turn. The characters and the settings were just a bit two dimensional and didn’t stand out as much as they should have.

I liked the creative nature of this story more than the execution. I don't care much for stories where you don't get any answers to the important questions, especially when it's done that way to keep the reader reading. I would have liked to have gotten more breadcrumbs about Michael's father, and I want to know what's going on with Amadeus Klimt. The book got awesome and hilarious MC's and side characters that made me laugh out loud in the middle of the night. You see, I was expecting to get scared, to have a goose bumps while reading it, that's why I decided to read it on the middle of the night- to get more on the feels, instead I got a laugh and entertainment, which wasn't so bad really. This book was definitely good. It had a lot of good traits. One of them was mystery. The mystery starts when Michel find s out he has powers. It keeps going when he joins UNICORN. Another good trait is action. Actin plays a big role in the second part of the book. Especially when danger strikes. And the last good trait was suspense. This book made it very had to guess what was next. You could never figure out what was coming up next, and I loved that. There was only one thing I didn't like. How long it was. This book could have been a lot longer especially if the author added a few more adventures.Get reading before it's too late. It is addictive. Its twisting and turning plot has you wanting more and more, until you realise the book it over.

To conclude, 'A Dark Inheritance' was not #DarkAcademia (as referred to as in the Goodreads synopsis) nor a good book. I enjoyed many aspects of this book, starting with the content warnings at the very beginning. I really appreciate the author for warning us as readers about the subject of intense anxiety present in the book; it very much helped prepare me for the journey.

Note of CAUTION: Keep a few hours in hand before you start reading the book. Otherwise you'll continuously keep thinking about it. Maybe even visualise strange things. J’ai vraiment apprécié le côté enquête du livre malgré le fait que j’ai anticipé pas mal de plot twist. J’ai également beaucoup aimé le côté magie couplé avec une ambiance dark academia. When Michael Malone miraculously manages to save a dog's life things in his life take an unexpected turn. He discovers that he can alter reality and joins the mysterious agency UNICORNE (a secret organization that is dedicated to investigating strange and paranormal phenomena). As Michael learns more about his powers more and more questions arise about UNICORNE. What does UNICORNE have to do with his father's mysterious disappearance and what is their real purpose? The beginning, with a father mysteriously disappeared then there being suggestions he had been involved in some secret organisation, is hardly original.
