About this deal

The story is about Ava, a young woman who spent the last few years in foster families after her mother was killed by vampires, even if only she believes it. Also, I felt like we were led to like Xander less from the start, so it wasn't hard to predict where it was going.

In the beginning when she was complaining about her room not being a nice colour and how people always expect kids to be grateful?

I was immediately swept up into the sinister world of The Society of True Magicians and found myself questioning what was real and what was illusion alongside Ava. Here we have Ava, who had been moved about foster home to foster home (with her brother Parker) since the death of their parents, who were stage Magicians. Similarly, the competition element can feel overdone in YA fantasy but I liked the way this one came together, and found the challenges themselves interesting to read. She ignores the fact that I’m looking at her like a monster from a horror film and walks toward the bed. Apart from her there were some characters I adored - like Roman, Reina and sweet Willow - and others I couldn’t care for.

Cruel Illusions by Margie Fuston | Goodreads

A troupe of magicians reveal that they use their magic to hunt vampires, and they invite Ava to join them. Longest Pregnancy Ever: The pregnancy of Ava's mother lasts centuries, as she was pregnant with Ava before becoming immortal.Margie Fuston creates a lush, breathtaking, fantastical world where magic is alive and it is impossible to distinguish between illusion and reality.

She ends up helping them pick who they think is the hotter Lara Croft: Angelina Jolie or Alicia Vikander. The "competition" seemed kind of scattered with no real steps and rather just a "fend for yourself" aspect. After about 200 pages of repetitive nonsense, Ava decides that maybe all the BLOOD rituals and people disappearing is a little fishy, and after some digging she discovers that her mother was the most powerful magician in the world and also the first magician ever to exist and also immortal, and this means she too is the most powerful magician ever to exist, despite the fact that all she can really do is flip knives and make coins disappear.

Can we embrace power, discover our potential, without sinking into the very enemies we seek to destroy? Speaking in terms of romance, there is a love triangle but it was not heavy or cringe for me, indeed I must say that the romance was very successful but in this book it has very little space so do not expect an entirely romance book.
