About this deal

These shoes pay homage to the fashion and music that embodies our brand. From David Bowie and Marc Bolan to Steve Marriott and Twiggy, these styles have been worn on the feet of many legends in music and fashion. No outfit is complete without a stunning pair of Ikon Original shoes, so take a look and find your new favourite footwear today. So maybe you are starting to think that I just think everything looks dated, well I suppose most of them do, there is a but coming though. The Style Council became a household name across the World in 1985 and released their best-selling album Our Favourite Shop – it was a return (in part) to the intensity of The Jam albeit with perhaps more direct lyricism and less direct musical assault, and as brilliant as it is I can’t help but miss those first two years of incredible spiritually uplifting output and simple joie De Vivre that so defined their sound. It remains one of Weller’s favourite times musically ‘like being in a youth club’ as he once described it… and who doesn’t want to relive their youth every once and a while. This beautiful uplifting song defines the spirit of the band like no other – the stunning lyrics were the new manifesto for the new breed:

I have worn some green ones 4 -5 times now to various events. The shoe has been very comfortable. The style hugs the foot and is not for a very wide foot. What i was surprised about was the sole, it felt hard to touch and thought it may not prove good to wear. I was wrong on this, the hard sole made it slip very nicely around Mod Club The Alley Club dance floor recently. With Mods Mayday in Cambridge in a couple of weeks, and leafing through my mate Andy Cunningham’s growing Mod Revival collection, I thought it was time to have a look at the shoes on the feet of so many bands from that time.

IKON Original Boots - Desert, Loafers & Brogues

I do want to say before we start, that I am not going to do The Jam. They really require several articles to themselves. I am going to include some Two Tone, because despite protests of not being strict Mod, they did influence literally 1000s of us. Also I am not going to go on about the merits of the bands, that’s a book’s worth of text. The year ended with the mini album Introducing The Style Council which was released only in Japan, Australia, Holland, Canada and the US containing their recorded output to date, but still sold well in Dutch Import sales alone. The style of the shoe has a slight point to the front and I assume was a fashion shoe at the time. Would love to know where the shoe was brought! And why it has never really been seen since. Was it bespoke ?

Since the 80s various people have made them, but they could be hard to get hold off by a good make. So guess what we had them made. They come from the same factory as the shelbys, so you know they will be good Certainly The Jam seem to wear them through most of ’77 and Foxton can be seen in a pair on the ‘All Mod Cons’ LP cover. As the band came through, the shoes would have been an easy money spin. The first line of their 1984 single My Ever Changing Moods with its Isley Brothers soul-funk groove was another big hit (UK No 5), including for the first time the US where it reached top 30 – Weller’s highest single chart position there; before or since. The success of the single meant that their debut album Café Bleu released in March was renamed after the single in the US. Available in a bunch of luxury materials and stunning designs, you can’t go wrong with a pair of Ikon shoes. Always made to an exceptional standard, the shoes in this collection are the perfect designer footwear to add a splash of style to any outfit. The Hearts only have one single where you can see their feet, and it is the classic Jimmy. In terms of dress The Purple Hearts always looked good to me, they were early adaptors of ‘op art’ shirts and their clothes fitted well. Now I wanted to draw attention to the styles because we call ourselves MOD Shoes. And I think that all the above styles fit in with the very “broad church” that we call MOD. We sell loads of loafers, which started making me think, in terms of numbers of people, are there more MODS of one type than another? When the curtain came down on The Jam in late ’82 it was undoubtedly a relief for Weller. The intensity of their message was simply weighing too heavily on his young shoulders. The music just too constrictive for his burgeoning mind. It should have perhaps come as no surprise that his next musical venture was going to be lighter in tone. The suede upper has nice cord effect and if i am honest i thought would be more expensive shoe. Certainly i think it would sit well with some more high level shoe makers. But this is where i think DJ have done us good again, good looking shoe at a great value.

I ponder if the white jeans was part of the band look then. I have always thought they stamped their MOD allegiance with this sleeve. Tagged brian jones, dance craze, lambretta, leather shoe, loafer, mod, Mod footwear, mod revival, mod shoes, mods, Paul Weller, scooter, SKA, Skinhead, skinheads, Tassel Loafers, two colour shoes, Two Tone Leave a commentSo perhaps before any going any further you should go up in the loft and go and get down all that vinyl that has been left up there for too long. I did and I think I may have hurt myself! The rush to embrace the band and the image though added weight to already young shoulders. Realising its self-fulfilling prophecy, it’s no wonder Weller preferred the B-side, taking the Revolver era Beatle template into a modern post-punk angular guitar spark onwards to (second number one) Start and the astonishing Tales from The Riverbank. For males and females, every pair in this collection is made from the highest quality materials and are embossed with the famous Ikon Originals logo. Wear them with pride to any occasion, whether it be a wedding, a night in the bar, or on a Northern Soul dancefloor. When you are deciding what to wear, you want a range of good looking shoes. As you are getting dressed and slipping on your shoes you look in the mirror and think yep these are cool. You walk down the street, thinking these feel great. Around our way these shoes were everywhere, especially at our school. Go into town and you would meet others that were stamping the allegiance to the Jam also wearing them.

These shoes will be for ever etched into our heads because of The Jam & Going Underground. Countless people wanted so much to be part of The Jam gang and what better wear than wearing the exact same shoes as Bruce Foxton wore in the video. I know we are meant to be about shoes on here, but here are some tunes you should try and hear, which you may not have heard of. The shoes are part of the DJ range of shoes, This one is the Rawlings. The shoes comes in 3 colours Green, Purple and the one in review here Orange.

What MOD shoe are you?

The next one along is the Britpop MOD, taking their cue slightly from 80’s casual, amalgamated with Damien from Blur. This look was everywhere in the 90’s and to a certain extent hasn’t faded. Rare Adidas and Fred Perry. Personally I think it is a “trendy dad” look now. Saying that I love getting new trainers!
