About this deal

Round games are party games, played by three to ten players, in which scoring is usually done at the end of each hand and each hand is usually a game. Normally play stops when one player "chips out" (plays his last domino) although some versions require both partners to chip out. If it reaches a point at which no player can proceed, the winners are the partners whose combined sum of all spots on their remaining dominoes is the least. The Chinese game used the tiles to represent civil and military ranks based on all the possible outcomes when throwing two six-sided dice. Before choosing a set of dominoes, especially if you are spending more than a few dollars, there are a few factors you need to keep in mind.

There are many different types of games to play with dominoes. We have adapted the most common domino game, The Draw Domino Game, to work with our printed dominoes. You can find a printable version of our instructions here.Regardless of where the game was first played, there was no record of dominoes in Europe before the early 1700’s. If two dominoes have been played, the count depends on whether both tiles are with the line of play or one tile is with and the other tile is across the line of play. For example, if the 3-5 and 5-1 tiles are played, the count is 4 (3+1). The matching halves of each of the two dominoes would be joined, end to end, with the open ends being 3 and 1. If the 3-5 and 5-5 tiles are played, the count is 13 (3+5+5). The double tile, 5-5, would be played across the line of play, and both halves of the double would be considered ends of the line of play. Winner of the Last Game: The winner of the last game played may open the next game. Or, if a game ends in a tie, the player who placed the last tile plays the first tile in the next game.

This variation is suitable for Double Nine sets. Two or three players start with seven tiles each, four or more players start with five tiles each. Play starts as per Cross dominoes with the second to fifth tiles played forming a cross around the initial doublet. Thereafter play continues as per the Draw game but whenever a doublet is laid down, two new chains can start from it. Therefore, the number of available chains becomes much larger than for previous games. Not drawing the last two tiles from the boneyard in a two-handed game or the last tile if more people are playing. The points awarded to the winner are doubled if the last domino is any double, or the final domino could have been played at either end of the train. Some domino games end once a certain number of hands have been played or a player or team makes the necessary points to win. For many other domino games, the object of the game is to be the first player (or team) to dispose of all the dominoes in your hand. These domino games end when a player has played all the dominoes in his hand before the other players and announces, "Domino." The origin of the name ‘dominoes’ has puzzled many players throughout the years. No one knows for sure when or how dominoes got their name. Before every game, a player shuffles the tiles face down on a flat playing surface, thoroughly mixing them by moving them with his hands. The player's hands may not stay on the same tiles while shuffling, and the player who does the shuffling should be the last to draw his hand for the game. For example, in a two-handed game, the losing player has three dominoes left in his hand, 1-2, 2-6 and 0-1, the winning player gets 15 points: 1-2 rounds up to 5, 2-6 rounds up to 10, and 0-1 rounds down to zero.

A spinner is a double which can be played on all four sides. Depending on the rules of the game being played, the double played as the lead is the only spinner of the game; or, every double played throughout the game is a spinner. If the double played is not a spinner, it may be played on only two sides. At the end of the round, any remaining individual domino left in a player’s hand is rounded to the nearest multiple of five. Most scholars believe the origins of modern dominoes came from a popular 12th-century gambling game in China. Scoring Games: In scoring games, players get points both during play, depending on how they lay their tiles, and at the end of the round. In a scoring game, the person who reaches a certain number of points wins the game. Players who are unable to lay down a domino on their turn must draw dominoes from the boneyard until they are able to do so.Because it is so simple and straight forward, it is an excellent game to start off playing. Number of Players: If the opening tile scores, mark it down to end the player’s turn. The person to the left can now place a tile with a matching number of spots on either end. In some domino games, the rules state that the first play must be made by the player with the highest double in his hand. Rules for other games state that the first play must be made by the player with the heaviest domino, double or single, as the case may be. Playing games (like with these club domino cards) is a chance for children to have fun and be competitive. This can be harnessed to help children improve important maths skills, which in turn helps them to master different numeracy topics during their primary school education.

Loser 3 subtracts the winner's spot total of 3 from 5 = 2 and rounds this to the nearest multiple of 5 which is 0.

How to play dominoes:

If you are using a cribbage board to keep score, each hole is worth five points. The Common Variations: Unless you have a desire to play a specific game which requires a certain number of tiles, your best bet is to choose the set which is most popular where you live. Loser 1 subtracts the winner's spot total of 3 from 11 = 8 and rounds this to the nearest multiple of 5 which is 10. Upon reaching Europe, dominoes was significantly altered from the more sophisticated Chinese game. The duplicate tiles were removed and replaced with tiles containing blanks. Each player draws the number of tiles specified in the rules for the domino game being played and then places them in front of himself in such a way that the other players can't see the pips on his tiles.
