About this deal

Closer in on the action, there’s still plenty of intensity to the colors, if not quite the same subtlety as we saw at 4K. There are plenty of layers to the blue of Electro’s pulsing form, the yellow of the New York taxis is as we’d expect and the bright red and blue of Spidey’s outfit looks great against the night-time streets. With HD content in SDR, the TU8500’s image has a bright overall picture level, with a satisfying level of pop. It’s a great match for regular Blu-ray. Step it up with native 4K, and the screen snaps into clearer focus. Your Samsung LED 8000 Smart TV boasts timeless beauty with its ‘One Design’, which enriches your TV experience. Transporting you closer to the action, the LED 8000 elegantly combines the screen with an Ultra-slim bezel, reducing clutter and delivering a truly immersive experience. The TV is framed with a super-narrow Silver Metal outline for total sophistication that complements any decor. And with its light-weight design, it is easily hung on the wall and perfect for modern living. In this new artefact-free configuration, we were much, much happier with the pictures the UE55D8000 was putting out, and began to appreciate this HDTV in a new light. Since we lost access to the 10-point correction mode, darker areas of the picture appeared very mildly blue-tinted, but the inaccuracies were still small and easy to ignore. Colour performance was excellent, with an off-hue blue being the only point of contention in this area. Console Gaming However, it’s worth noting that one of the HDMI ports will become unusable in this position due to being rear-facing, which is a shame considering what’s there is already a fairly stingy offering.

What really matters about the 55D8000’s 3D capabilities, though, is that they deliver the 3D goods much more successfully than those of Samsung’s first-generation of 3D TVs. There’s not much you won’t find. There are no app gaps from any of the top tier services, with Dolby Vision and 4K support on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV. Better still, you’ll even get to use the pay-as-you-go Sky Store – not an app you’ll find on many smart TVs or media streamers – which plays host to a number of exclusive HBO shows as well as Sky’s own programming. The Samsung UE55TU8000 has two built-in speakers, each with 10W power. The total output power of 20W is usually sufficient, unless you are too far from the TV. In this case, you should buy external speakers that turn your room into a home theater. If you buy external speakers, you can also use the multi-room link technology. The sound is very clear, but it depends on the quality of the content. We will give 4/5 points for the Samsung UE55TU8000 review part of the sound. Design Few would describe the TV as slim because it swells out to the rear from that tiny bezel, but equally it’s not overweight. For what it is, it looks good, and certainly not cheap. Taking a step down to SDR with The Amazing Spider-man 2 on Blu-ray, there’s a lot more for this set to get its teeth into, color-wise. Watching the Times Square scene, it’s clear this TV upscales well. The shot over the neon-lit New York streets still shows tremendous micro dimming control. The lights of windows and advertising boards don’t spill into the nearby dark and the picture remains clean. The TU8500 panel sits on a splayed central tripod, which makes it easy to park in your living room. The set’s not as chic as Panasonic’s HX800, but the bezel is still fashionably minimal, basically a wraparound frame with an extended lip at the base. Stereo speakers point down from the bottom of the cabinet.

Colour tone is a toss up between Warm1 and Warm2 and we’d ensure sharpness is always at 0 to avoid added noise. You can leave colour and tint settings where they are. More Apple than Android, Roku is customisable in appearance but part of its success is that it’s the same experience no matter your device. It has a clean UI that’s very straightforward to use. It rarely takes more than one guess to find the menu or setting you’re after but neither does it feel oversimplified. Last year, it’s fair to say that out of all the major manufacturers’ 3DTV efforts, we were most critical of Samsung’s. While none of the LCD-based 3D TVs really enthused us when it came to 3D (due to annoying crosstalk artefacts), Samsung’s offerings had two other issues that rival LCD TV makers managed to avoid. First, the tri-dimensional modes of the company’s 2010 3D-capable displays were obviously 60hz-centric, because any European-style 50hz video input to the TV showed obvious judder in its 3D display mode. Secondly, Samsung’s 2010 3D LCDs and Plasmas featured poor quality scaling with 3D signals. Scaling in 3D is required for any content that doesn’t deliver Full HD 1080p to each eye, meaning that 720p 3D and Side-by-Side 3D sources were affected. These two issues meant that it was difficult to recommend lastThe only real issue worth pointing out is the Samsung UE55D8000?s inability to fully saturate Blue. This is not really obvious without intimate knowledge of the content being viewed, or without a perfect comparison display. All of the other colours were as visibly perfect as we could hope for in terms of both chromaticity and luminance, meaning that colour appeared realistic and not overblown. We’re happy to see that an improvement has been made on the 2010 models, which also had difficulty in producing a fully saturated Red. 3D Calibration 3D Mode Greyscale But it’s also pre-baked, so you can’t make adjustments in the Expert settings menu, whereas Standard opens up gamma control and colour space adjustments, for those who like to tinker.
