The Agents tab links the software agents of multiple devices to allow for a graceful shutdown over IP. In the event of a Power outage, Agents can automatically shut down non-critical equipment to extend battery runtime. Additionally, you can set agents to shut down all equipment as the battery is nearing the end of its runtime. Users can also leverage the NETWORK-M2 card (initially looked at more in-depth here). The main screen gives us an overview of the four most critical things to worry about with a UPS, energy flow, outlet status, active alarms, and environment.
The first point to note is that not all UPS manufacturers offer lithium-ion powered UPS systems. Those that do provide limited offers in their UPS ranges. For example, a UPS manufacturer may offer smaller single-phase UPS up to 2-3kVA with lead acid or lithium-ion battery options. These are specific UPS systems designed to work with the respective battery technology and they are not interchangeable. The reason being the unique charging and management characteristics of each type of battery. Prices will also be different with a 20-30% premium being charged for lithium, whether the UPS is an online, line interactive or standby system. Below we’ve provided an analysis of some of the pros and cons of using li-ion batteries in UPS systems. Environmentally Friendly: Other than the obvious, that Lithium Ion batteries do not use Lead, there are many other “green” benefits to Lithium. Lithium batteries require less charging time and power, need to be replaced less often, and take less energy to produce and transport.Rated at 800VA/450W, it has more than enough power output for simple equipment. It should even be enough to power a PC, albeit for a very short time. There's no AVR protection from power fluctuations, but it uses standby power management to help regulate voltage. The Samsung SDI lithium-ion battery system is specifically approved for use with KOHLER Uninterruptible Power’s KOHLER PW 6000 (60-120 kVA), KOHLER PW 9250DPA, 9500DPA and MF series UPS systems. Samsung SDI is one of the most experienced producers of lithium-ion batteries in the world and has a long record of safely supplying systems for use in critical power systems. Battery capacity (usually denoted by the power rating in watts) should be the number one focus when getting a UPS. A sub-1000W UPS should be good enough for most appliances, but if you have really powerful systems like a gaming rig, you might want to look beyond the 1000W mark.
They provide a longer lifespan and higher reliability than sealed LA batteries. LA battery rooms must be kept at a reasonably constant temperature (20 -25°C) to avoid reducing service life or even causing damage. Lithium-Ion UPS Batteries Almost everyone with a mobile phone has become accustomed to the features and benefits offered by lithium-ion battery sets. Older handsets are often sold-on to the second-user market and if a battery requires recycling it is important to place this in the correct waste stream and to consider the battery as general waste.UPS power supply applications normally use the VRLA AGM type because of its lower internal resistance, high specific power and efficiency, low self-discharge and lower purchasing cost. AGM uninterruptible power supplies batteries also charge faster and can deliver a high current of short duration. Flooded LA UPS batteries Do you need to add water to flooded lead acid batteries? The other major tab we’ll look at is the Controls tab. As the name implies, users can control the entire UPS or certain outlet groups here. The option for safe off and safe reboot can be selected. And the status is displayed. Verification of correct and safe installation as per the vendor’s manuals, including torquing of terminals and set up of the battery management system by a trained service engineer. Configuration files should be saved for future reference.
High Power Density: Lithium Ion batteries have over 5 times the Energy density and take up about 1/3 the space of a VRLA based solution that delivers the same power. This means more power in the same or smaller footprint. A single cabinet configuration of 34.6 kWh comprises one switchgear, one switched mode power supply (SMPS) and 17 battery modules.
What Is an Uninterruptible Power Supply?
While Eaton brings a lot of cool features to the new 9PX-L series units, one of the most important aspects is how the unit handles a power failure scenario. The 9PX series offers two modes of operation, the first is double-conversion and the second is a high-efficiency mode. Cabinet Height: The LG cabinet is 95" (241 cm) tall as shipped. Since the batteries are not installed, the cabinet may be moved laying horizontally. Plan for moving this 225 lb (102 kg) cabinet through doors, onto small lifts, and note ceiling heights where the cabinet(s) will be placed. Remember that conduit will land on top of the conduit box on top of this 100.5" (255 cm) tall cabinet. Commercial/industrial ceiling heights are often 120" (305 cm), but not always. Remote trip of the battery cabinet breaker: note that the UPS does NOT generate the shunt trip command for battery breakers (a UPS "load off" or UPS EPO command will shut off the UPS but will not trip the battery breakers in the LG cabinets). The user is responsible for providing +24VDC wiring to each LG cabinet to facilitate a remote shunt trip of the battery cabinet breaker. See the installation manual and the customer drawing #110000683 for details of this connection. Take time to recharge data and record after a full discharge test. Verify UPS charge limits are programmed correctly. Both (can) monitor battery terminal temperature and cabinet ambient temperature and can warn of possible thermal runaway conditions Flipping it around, on the right side are two sets of 5-15R load segment outlets in two groups, four total. Moving to the left are four 5-15R managed outlets. Next to them is the EBM connector and a ground bonding screw. Continuing on our leftward journey, we see the output relay port with the external battery module detection port under it. Further over is the network-M2 card and an RS-232 serial port near the bottom with a USB next to it. This is followed by a remote power off and remote on/off port. On the left side are the fan and the power cord. As usual, we found the 9PX to be easy to set up and get going. Unbox it, get it a power supply, plug in what we want to be protected, and we were good to go. While there are several management options, we had the network card and that was the easiest method to get management up and going. Truth be told, the 9PX would be fine without these on a one-off basis. That said, for IT admins managing larger Eaton deployments, the variety of management software does add a lot of value when it comes to visualizing and proactively managing these environments.Switchgear collects all information about each battery cell and controls all battery module management systems calculating state of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH). It also contains a moulded case circuit breaker and a shunt resistor. VPM allows the remote monitoring of the power of up to thousands of PDU and UPS device. This is done through an intuitive GUI. VPM is vendor agnostic. The software alerts for when devices need to be replaced proactively versus reactively. And VPM can deliver real-time analytics so admins know what is going on with power in their facility.
