However, you want this book for yourself to love and to keep safe because you think after reading June’s story that you can keep her safe within it with you. that you then push down and flatten. I call this the triangle house shape fold or corner folds – as this is used to make a simple origami house too! (Bottom left image).

Though this book successfully crafted a relationship in which the love interest is kind, caring, and not at all a source of drama, I did crave more. There is a lot of abuse in this book, both emotional and physical, so if that is triggering to you, this may not be the book for you. But if you can handle it, this book has a ton to offer. Things like: I would love to hear what ideas you have for using these lovely easy paper butterflies! Do I need a butterfly template to make these?It’s no secret that I was a huge huge fan of Lisa’s debut, Seed, and whilst Paper Butterflies is very different to Seed, Lisa’s writing has gone from strength to strength. Lisa has again captured my heart with her beautiful writing and characters that you care so much about and also characters that you loathe more than words can say. June doesn't have any respite at school either. She is horrifically bullied to the point where the children abuse her whenever they can. Holding her down and painting her skin white to match theirs is a scenario I will not forget.

Paper Butterflies is Olivia and Neil’s story. Told from Olivia’s perspective we learn she’s a tough talking, hot Cheeto loving, no nonsense, who needs a boyfriend girl.I really understood June. She was so terrified that she couldn’t speak up, except she did tell Blister some of it. I know what it feels like to be paralyzed with fear and feeling like everyone around you is ganging up on you. She faced abuse at home and bullying at school. Going to Blister’s house was her only reprieve. I loved Olivia’s wit and sarcasm and there were other fun characters that really contributed to this love story. YA romance? Yeah, I’m digging it. Lisa Heathfield launched herwriting career with Seed, her stunning YA debut about a cult. Before becoming a mum to her three sons, she was a secondary school English teacher and loved inspiring teenagers to read. Paper Butterflies is her beautiful and heart-breaking second novel. Lisa lives in Brighton.

Tough read. Thought provoking. Maybe a little slow in places. <-Maybe it had to be that way. I had a slight issue with some transitions within the chapters. But..... I have received this book on a read-to-review basis from NetGalley. Thank you to the author, Lisa Heathfield, and the publisher, Electric Monkey, for the opportunity. I totally did not expect to like this book as much as I did! Honestly, I could not put it down! This story is about A Preacher’s son and An Escort’s daughter falling in love. And to be completely honest, there isn’t as much a problem with this as I thought there would be. I am NOT okay. Paper Butterflies is very compelling, but read it when you are in a good mental place. An extra warning to those sensitive to scenes of physical and psychological abuse. June and Blister are easy to love: precious wonderful kids. This book wouldn’t be the same without their spirits.
