About this deal

What you need to know: In addition to Hellem and Export, Festbier is its own, more strongly brewed type of beer. It contains more original wort than normal Helles, and has an alcohol content higher than standard Helles, at 6 percent. Increasingly, darker types of malt are also being used for solid beer, giving it a caramelized luster.

Helles is certainly a less hyped style these days but volume-wise and historically it is a very popular style, arguably the most popular in the world as least as an influential piece for other light beers,” says Moser. “I think that the growth of craft beer has been a great thing for exploration of flavor, but for those that appreciate the flavor of well-made beer in its purest form, Helles is hard to beat. I think a well-rounded beer menu is important and while an experimental IPA is attractive and alluring, a perfect Helles is tried, true and something a beer drinker can return to again and again.” All of Augustiner′s brands are brewed in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot. This means the ingredients of the beer are just four: water, grain ( barley and or wheat), hops and yeast. How it tastes: Generally, Weissbier has a strong yeast note, and the yeast also makes it cloudy. The selected top-fermented yeast is responsible for notes like banana, berries and cloves. Citrus aromas in wheat beer come from hops. Like Brasserie Dupont for saisons or Sierra Nevada for modern West Coast hoppy beers, there are some true masters in the world of Helles. This beer is a very good looker. Very clear, a light golden yellow with a lovely frothy white head, and has some good lacing to boot. Its a fantastic looking beer, really inviting to drink! It is very clear to look at, excellent. What you need to know: These days, a Dunkeles is only the beer of choice for certain sets, though it was the dominant beer type in Bavaria for centuries. Admittedly, it was not always exactly the same as the Dunkeles of today, since in the past, the colour and taste of beers varied greatly; many of them were cloudy and most were dark. NEXT UP: The weird and terrible things that happen because bad people keep assuming that they’re doing bad things in private. Then, we’ll be winding down our Journey into Hell. See you tomorrow! Country Kind of Silence from Resident Culture and Fox Farm’s The Cottage are both beautifully crafted and worth seeking out,” recommends Porter.

Weißbier: Creamy and rich, the aromas and flavours of this honey-beige Weizen are like a cross between banana custard with a sprinkling of light brown sugar and creamed butter with cloves over country bread. Pro-tip: If your religion is totes A-OK with torturing babies to any degree and for any reason whatsoever, and you follow a god who’d ever allow that to happen under any circumstances, know that your religion and god are the bad guys in this equation. No OMG MUH CONTEXT makes this okay. Ever.) Where to drink it: Anywhere hip. In bars with a young crowd, by the Isar, after buying it from a well-appointed kiosk, at vernissages and in party pizzerias. Augustiner attaches a high degree of importance to draught beer in wooden barrels. The Lagerbier Hell is served from wooden casks at the Augustiner Bräustuben, the Edelstoff makes a cask appearance in the warmer months at the Augustiner Keller, and the Oktoberfest beer flows from wooden barrels on the Wiesn. The brewery also malts its own grain in its historic threshing floor malt house on the brewery premises. Despite the extra effort, the folks at Augustiner are convinced that the investment in this traditional malting process is worth the return in flavour. All of this care and attention to detail takes extra time, and it adds up to a defense of brewing tradition at a time when many breweries their size look more to the bottom line.Oh sure, Augustine thought Hell involved flames. Of course. He thought the New Testament’s description of “flames” was literally true, though the flames weren’t quite like earthly ones (nor would the people tortured have fleshly bodies like everyone has in life). His ideas sound a lot like the “ secret fire” we traced in previous Christian leaders’ writing. Most people are happy with bog standard beer. They’re happy drinking Carling or Heineken, and I don’t mind that. Each to their own. However, if you are in the top 1% (and growing) of drinkers who want to discover, understand and appreciate the craft, quality and value that the best independent breweries create then we are here for you.

of drinkers don’t have the palate to appreciate these beers. You’re here - we know you are more discerning than them. Well done for discovering Wee Beer Shop.

Edelstoff

During the 1880s, the brewery had passed into private hands, but that same number still marked each bottle. A reminder of Augustiner's heritage and history. It's a tradition that has seen the brewery well into the modern era too, with substantial investment, and an expanded contemporary brewhouse that has made Augustiner a bastion of Munich beer culture. Reminds me of evangelicals, who are fond of calling their churches “hospitals for sinners.” Are they saying their churches are Hell? Cuz I could agree with that.) Sidebar: For Real Evil, You Need Religion. Prices are dictated by ingredients. If a supermarket asks a brewery to brew a beer to a cheap price point it inevitably means inferior ingredients and cheaper production processes. The beers I sell are more expensive because they cost more to make. The best and freshest ingredients that the breweries can find.
