About this deal

Each and every moment of them had me giggling and swooning. I ate up all the crumbs I could get. The blind fold scene!? That was so hot even though it wasn't for anything like that. Also this was not YA and I'm definitely not complaining because that scene was just so good! An evocative tale of romance, mystery and alluring monsters, told in beautifully lush prose’Lyndall Clipstone, author of Lakesedge SHUT UP 😭😭😭😭 I cried!!! I am WEAK for the trope where a character sacrifices what they love and essentially themselves for the greater good. To win. UUUUGHHH I WANNA READ IT ALL OVER AGAIN!

The Scythe Card higher than most,” I said. “I’ve heard, if used too long, the pain is excruciating.” The new "Touch her and die" book boyfriend who would protect his girl no matter what. He was dangerously beautiful and interesting from the very beginning. Like his namesake, Ravyn had a dark aura, and he was sharp and intelligent. But he was also kind and selfless for his loved ones. Captain by the day and highwayman by the night? Ravyn had me swooning everytime with his words and actions. It was so sweet to see way he cared for Elspeth and earned her trust. At a young age, Elspeth spindle became infected with magic and the result? Being haunted by the nightmare—a monster whose voice suddenly appeared in her mind. She’s unaware who she can trust for good reason, leaving the nightmare to be the only one.This is the easiest 5 stars I’ve given a book in a while. One Dark Window is a gothic fantasy that gripped me from the start and didn’t let me out of its claws until the very end. Actually, I’m still in its clutches. This is a story about a girl with a dangerous secret, a mist that threatens to destroy the Kingdom, cards that grant magic for a high price, and a quest that could change the lives of many. To rid Blunder of the fever and the dark magic, Elspeth and her new companions must move against their King and dive into a dark past to find the missing puzzle pieces of the story of the Spirit of the Wood and the Shepherd King and the Old Book of Alders. I'm just the wind in the trees, the shadow, and the fright. The echo in the leaves...the nightmare in the night.”

I've been very wary of debut romance authors lately. Many have fallen into the trap of writing over-tropified garbage, so this book felt like a breath of fresh air... which isn't to say that it was faultless. I really like the direction the story is heading, and I'm glad that this book was able to keep my attention. And that cliffhanger though?? So yeah, not bad for a debut! Will definitely be reading book 2 when it's released. Second, the magic system is unparalleled. So so so incredibly good. I love the whole card system. I love that there is a price to pay for the magic as well. Honestly, the magic system in this book is pure perfection. All the side characters were delightful, but Ravyn's cousin, Prince Elm, definitely won my heart a lot more than the others. 💜 The familiar ease in which he interacted with Elspeth was so refreshingly entertaining - he never hesitated to challenge her - she never wavered in speaking her mind against him - it's such a comfortable kinship that is forging between them, and the way the cliffhanger left us dangling the way it did - I am very much looking forward to how much more of a part he's going to play in the future. 💮 His words moved something in me. The same calling from before--the same ache. I wanted him to run his hand over my mouth again--to feel the texture of his rough, hardened skin. My body was screaming, a mindless, impatient call for touch.

Read One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

This definitely gives off fall vibes and feels perfect for spooky season even more so that the second book comes out in October!

Rachel's writing was beautiful and elusive. The little riddles and poetry in between the chapters made everything more interesting. This was a fast paced story and Rachel perfectly balanced everything—the mystery, the characters' journey to find the remaining cards and Elspeth's relationships with Nightmare and Ravyn. This was written from Elspeth's pov and I loved it because how many times does a girl have a 500 year old hilarious monster in her head? I would also love to see some found family trope with Ravyn's family, Elspeth, Elm and Ione.Elspeth meets a Highwayman and his companions on her way with her family to join the King's Equinox ball at the castle. Secrets and dangerous schemes begin to unravel, and Elspeth is at risk of being exposed as the child who had survived the fever and was kept hidden until adulthood, and that equals to treason to the King. Five hundred years before our story begins, the first king of Blunder, the Shepherd King, bartered with the Spirit of the Wood for magic that he could control. Each time he traded something of himself and received a type of card from the Spirit. the nightmare possessing the MC had its moments, even though I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't compared him to Vespertine's Revenant who is entirely superior and funnier (sorry) ; the weak world-building : there's a Village and a Forest and two Castles and all of it is so vague that I couldn't describe it for the life of me ; the magic system ("system" sounds like a stretch tbh) is very simple despite its undeniable potential ;
