About this deal

That quiet guy who has been folding every hand for the last 30 minutes or you, the "wild maniac," who has been raising and bluffing them every hand?

Also, if you know what the unexploitable frequencies are, it is much easier to identify when others are playing in a way that is open to exploitation. Winning 29 percent of the remaining 25 percent would be correct, but unless I’m misreading it, that’s not what the book says.

Please do not be turned off by the math and understand that working through this chapter is well worth the effort.

This is a backwards approach to learning the game, because no matter how good you are at poker, you are never going to turn a big profit against these players. A player's intuition is the most valuable asset, thus to be able to express the way an author actually sees the game/ approaches the problems is probably more important even than the maths/ solutions themselves (although of course, a completely erroneous book is of no help to anyone).

Isolate: Raising after someone has entered the pot with the intention of playing heads-up postflop vs that player. The caveat here, though, is that you need good, reliable information to make accurate exploitative adjustments. My goal is to make game theory accessible to everyone, so players won’t have to spend all of their time running calculations and can instead do what they are supposed to be doing: playing poker! As an advanced player, I found the flop chapters to be most instructive and I feel certain that there is no other book with this level of flop analysis. Even so, I have good results and managed to rank as high as 117th worldwide on the PocketFives sliding leaderboard.

During the last few years Michael has worked alongside some of the brightest minds in modern poker, including WSOP bracelet winner Martin ‘Nizmojiz’ Kozlov, WCOOP bracelet winner and PLO coach Fernando ‘jnandez87’ Habegger and the living legend, three-time triple crown winner and author, Jon ‘Apestyles’ Van Fleet. The biggest reason why most people do not maximize their winnings versus the recreational poker players is because they simply aren't involved in enough pots against them. But if you know that you made the right decision because your decision is part of a correct GTO strategy, losing the hand will not discourage you from making that correct decision next time. It is important to play aggressively against the weaker players, but also remember that you can't force them to fold. He has assisted with the development of Pio Solver, one of the most advanced GTO solvers in the world.

While I have seen these same problems with other books, none of them are occurring with this one, except that the equations are small but still readable. The answers to all these questions – and much, much more – can be found in the two new video series from Michael Acevedo. Remember you’re getting a book about ‘poker game theory’ and with that comes advanced mathematic concepts. Then start getting involved against them, raising every time they limp if you have anything even remotely playable.

You should also follow this up on the turn a reasonable amount of the time if you have some sort of pair or decent draw.

Proponents of exploit-heavy strategies argue that using a GTO-based strategy means you don’t get to take advantage of your opponents mistakes, and you miss out on loads of value as a result. However, even if you skip the math, this book can be used as a reference guide for pre-flop raising and 3-bet ranges, push/fold charts and a glossary for nearly every poker term. jon more than helped making mpt book so he sees it as his baby and maybe he is a little 'overzelous' at promoting his fellow writters book. Martin was also obsessed with solving poker and our minds were very alike, so we worked together for a long time after the original GTO group dissolved.
