Hi Zenas, unfortunately most petrol mowers operate in this way. However there are some that have a break blade clutch, that allows the engine to keep running whilst you disengage the blade. As I mentioned earlier on, the Cobra MX534SPH comes with the incredible force of a Honda GCV170 engine which has been designed to be extremely efficient where fuel is concerned and has a long lifespan. The bar isn’t foam covered – just bare painted metal – but that’s to be expected at this price level. Thankfully, it folds over on itself for easy storage.

In this regard, the Cobra MX534SPH is a terrific contender that should provide years of reliable cutting with very little effort.As we mentioned, both of these mowers have pretty similar levels of adjustability when it comes to cutting height, from around 25mm to 75mm, and this gives anyone looking to do a really professional mow a lot to work with. We appreciated the flexibility offered by on both the Cobra and Honda mowers. If you don't want to collect your grass cuttings or your lawn has become overgrown, the MX534SPH comes equipped with a side discharge function. The Cobra M40SPC also comes with self propulsion but you only get one speed – 2mph – which could be considered fairly fleet footed if you’re not as mobile as you used to be. At 28kgs, it’s also exceedingly heavy for the size, possibly too weighty to carry up even a few steps. But on the plus side, this mower cuts exceptionally well and comes with a large 50-litre mesh grass bag that’s easy to store. At 25 - 75mm, its 10-stage cutting height range is also worth shouting about.

The Cobra MX534SPH petrol lawn mower comes equipped with comfort handles and self propelled drive system with 4-speed gearbox. As instructed, I filled the M40SPC with the supplied Cobra oil and Aspen 4 alkylate fuel which I bought at my local garden machinery shop, closed the choke and it started on the third pull. I then slowly opened the choke and the 135cc Cobra DG450 OHVengine settled comfortably into its rhythm. Despite the weight, this mower’s self propulsion made it easy to push around and it cut the grass as well as most other models I’ve tested. This Cobra MX534SPH comes with a mulching plug so you can mulch as often as you like. Some similar priced petrol mowers from other brands either do not have the mulching option, or charge extra for the mulching plug. The grass collector is made from a durable, high quality fabric which enables a free flow of air to provide compact and efficient collection. The large 65 litre capacity bag will mean more time mowing and fewer stops to empty.
