The Greenfeast recipes are for those who want easy recipes for eating more vegetable dishes throughout the week and there will be suggestions for changing up each recipe, as well as lists and lists of quick ideas. A bit of a mixed bag to be honest, with some compilations more successful than others, but something of a blessing when you come home tired and hungry. Some of the flavour combinations I’d never have thought of and I’ve not tried a single recipe that I haven’t found absolutely delicious. There are plenty of nicely photographed , delicious-looking food ideas in this book but I found the pretentious humility quite amusing.

I had a fennel bulb that was miraculously almost the exact weight specified and I cut it to the width specified in the instructions, but there was no way I could fit all of the fennel in one layer in my large Le Creuset frying pan. More hospitable and more fun, I think, is a table that has a selection of bowls and dishes of food to which people can help themselves.
