About this deal

Sealing: yes, a rubber grommet at the lens-mount plus further special weather-sealing throughout the construction. The other lenses in this comparison are similarly equipped except for the Tamron which only has a sealing at the lens-mount. [+] If you shoot RAW+JPG, the difference between those same-image files will be bigger than the difference between two different brands of raw files. Weight: 827g (29.2 oz.) plus 55g for the lens hood. The other lenses in this comparison are of similar weight except for the Tamron which is much lighter at 540g + 25g lens hood. The Panasonic is the heaviest at 935g (+ lens hood). [0]

Aperture ring: No, just like the other lenses in this comparison, except for the Nikon which offers a multi-function control ring which can be assigned to operate the aperture or exposure compensation. [0] You haven't provided any arguments or comparisons really. Sure you can say Sony looks bad, I don't think so. Most people don't think so. Sony consistently ranks high/ the highest in blind color tests. (Which also are often just-auto white balance tests, since color science across brands is remarkably similar) Where did I make a blanket statement?! I said specifically that sigma already has the top spot for A FEW of their lenses.I know there is a reason we did not see that that often and Olympus did not release a new f/2.0 standard zoom because the old one was already really big.

The build quality and handling of Sigma’s new 24-70mm Art lens for mirrorless cameras is top-notch. It feels really robust without being overly heavy, and has refined handling in every area, from the smooth-action zoom and focus rings to the various buttons and switches. Autofocus is super-fast, deadly accurate and virtually silent. Just as important as optical quality is the focus performance: especially for candid portraiture. And here the FE 135mm GM is industry leading: focus is lightning fast thanks in part to its four XD ('extreme dynamic') linear induction motors. These motors are far faster than the previous piezoelectric design of Sony's 'Direct Drive SSM' system, and are capable of moving larger, heavier elements." At the lens mount you’ll find a rubber grommet providing some dust and moisture resistance, but unlike the 24-70 2.8 Art version, this doesn’t extend to the rest of the lens, so use with caution in bad weather. This is the same approach as Sigma’s recent DG DN Contemporary prime lenses, not to mention Tamron’s 28-75.

With the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN ART and Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN ART, Sigma is now competing with Sony ’ s native lenses, offering smaller and lighter options. It is not easy to get colors right. It takes a lot of work. And Sony changes with every camera, so previous profiles need to be fixed.

Designed specifically for mirrorless, the lens is compatible with either full-frame or APS-C camera bodies. For the latter it offers full-frame-equivalent focal lengths from 36mm to 105mm, with corresponding impact to the effective aperture. With its standard zoom range on full-frame and generous maximum aperture, it's well-suited to subjects like portraits, weddings, events, travel and street photography. It also has decent macro capabilities and is quite well-suited to video, making it a versatile all-rounder.After reviewing the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 OS ART for Canon mount, I didn’t have particularly high hopes for the new Sigma 24-70 model for mirrorless, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover how well the new lens performed.

The final two images here were both taken at 70mm, looking at the absolute far upper-right edge of the frame. Here are the results at f/2.8: So let’s start with my distant landscape scene, angled as always so that fine details run right into the corners. Here’s the lens at 24mm f2.8 and taking a close look in the middle reveals a tremendous amount of detail and high contrast even with the aperture wide-open. Closing it one stop to f4 provides a tiny boost for pixel-peepers, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s looking great in the middle at f2.8. Unfortunately the Sigma can't compete with the G Master II when it comes to autofocus performance. Although the Sigma is no slouch in this regard, the Sony delivers faster and smoother focusing thanks to its four linear XD motors. The previous Sony 24-70 also had great build quality but suffered from being front heavy. This is often problematic for gimbal users. AutofocusPrice: 1200 EUR (incl. 19% VAT) / 1100 USD. That is much lower than the lenses from Sony (1860 EUR / 2200 USD), Panasonic (2500 EUR / 2200 USD), and Nikon (1800 EUR / 2000 USD after rebates). But the Tamron is still cheaper at only 730 EUR / 880 USD. [0] The Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f2.8 works on Leica, Panasonic and Sigma L-mount cameras. It is larger and heavier than the Sigma and costs 2500 EUR / 2200 USD. In the end, I prefer the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 over the Tamron in almost every aspect except for the size and weight where I prefer the Tamron to such a massive degree that it would really make this a difficult choice for me.
