Sometimes a heartfelt Christmas quote is the best way to spread the cheer this holiday season: There were a lot of characters mentioned throughout the story and while it was a bit overwhelming at times, it also helped set the stage and reflect what a tight knit community Catalina Cove was. The story did take place over the holidays, the seasonal elements were fairly mild: talk of the small town’s Christmas on Main Street, a tree decorating party. I found the story’s “twist” concerning the titular Christmas wish to be a bit over the top with the kismet aspect, and truly not necessary to the story, but it also didn’t detract from my enjoyment. Dear [client name]. The holidays are filled with good will and cheer, but you bring that to our office year-round. We are so appreciative of that, and we can’t wait to see you again next year. May your season be merry and bright, and your new year filled with delight!

Visiting Catalina Cove, a vibrant coastal Louisiana town steeped in French Creole and southern history, was a delightful experience. A small town ran by a wealthy business owner, who offered low interest business loans to entice former residents to return and help to revitalize the business district. Most of the residents who accepted the offer found love. Vaughn Miller and Sierra Crane are the latest pair to find love in this magical town. However, before they can seize their chance at a happily ever after, they would need to let go of the pain associated with their pasts.I really admire Rundell's way with words - I highly rate several of her chapter books for middle grade readers - but in this Christmas picture book, Emily Sutton's beautiful illustrations (so colourful, so expressive) are actually the stand-out feature.

Terrific story of two people who left their small hometown of Catalina Cove behind to pursue bigger dreams. Vaughn went to New York and had a successful Wall Street career until he was convicted of a crime he didn't commit. He spent two years of a five-year sentence in prison, where he credits his success to the encouraging words of an anonymous pen pal known only as Marie. He then went home to Catalina Cove to start over. He kept to himself, kept his head down, and moved forward until the day he was exonerated and his name cleared. He finally feels that he can hold his head up again. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone in the [business name] family! You make us shine bright and we can’t wait to serve you next year. This is a glaring error that keeps being repeated in the story and probably in the other Catalina Cove novels. "A room with an ocean view", they could "smell the ocean", etc. If one could then they weren't in Louisiana! It irked me each time I read the reference. We have lakes, bayous, rivers, marshes, and the Gulf of Mexico, we may have more water then land in this state, but there is NO Ocean!

I really enjoyed this sweet romance that grew from an explosive attraction to a meaningful love story. It was great reading their love journey as both of them were so deserving of a real chance at happiness, together. I wanted to scream at Sierra to let this man love you, but she was scarred in the past and needed more time. Vaughn’s patience, consistency, openness and understanding helped Sierra break down her walls, and give love a try.
