About this deal

It has two gears, which are easy to switch between via a lever on the side of the unit, with the 710-watt motor supporting speeds from 200 rpm right up to 2500 rpm, and a constant electronic control system ensuring a consistent drill speed, even when used on hard materials. Q : I'm looking for a compact pillar drill that is powerful enough to easily drill into hardwood (primarily oak) with a Forstner 38mm drill bit.

Drilling speeds and depths can be viewed on the digital display or adjusted using the knob underneath for stepless speed adjustments. However, our two reviews combined (and linked by your post) give a nicely collaborative approach to a product review . Scheppach and Parkside has launched “competing” products) - I’d get the Bosch still, but wished they had parted with the wheel. For drilling wood, the provided handle is fine, but when drilling big holes in steel, you need a lot of downward pressure, and with the wheel type, I find that difficult to consistently achieve.

There is little side to side movement in the drill shaft, and the movement in chuck spindle is horrendous. A 'normal' keyless chuck would suit me better, but this one works and I suspect I will get so used to it that it isn't an issue any more.I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it's easily on a par with other Bosch power tools I've bought. I bought this drill because i need to drill accurate bolt holes in my model aircraft propellers amonst other things. The reason I ask is that I don't use a DP as such, but a reasonably high torque power drill in a Wabeco unit. Note: This newer version doesn't have the clear guard over the chuck as I've seen in some photos and videos online. The reason I gave it a lower value for money is that it is quite noisy and I would have thought for the money this could be better.

This isn't the first Bosch i've given bad notes for, perhaps the fact that they are produced in china has alot to answer for the bad quality control; and it's poor. So far i have not bothered to make use of the electronic depth guage, still preferring to mark a depth stop on the bit with some coloured tape. There is a reason that every other pillar drill has always had a 3 spoked handle, and that's because it works the best. So much for the appalling packaging (I should really have refused reception for it to be sent back directly - sound familiar?
