The mattress measures 18cm in height which is way less compared to the Emma Original. This is expected as this mattress is made of 2 layers instead of 3. There are already quite a few memory foam brands to choose from – for example, Simba, Eve, Nectar and so on. So, should you opt for Emma? The cover is machine washable – but not waterproof. You can place your Emma Essential on any flat surface including your floor. However, this is not very hygienic so I will advise you to use a bed frame. According to the maker, you can use a slatted bed frame, a box spring or an adjustable bed. If you use a slatted frame, make sure that the distance between the slats is no longer than 7cm. How will it be delivered?You weigh above average:The medium sleep feel will be a little too soft for heavier bodies, and you may find the all-foam design starts to sag sooner than you'd like, too. Whilst the Emma mattresses can be a good choice for sleepers that move about a lot at night, couples may find that they’re not the best mattresses for motion transfer. If you’re a light sleeper, you may find that a partner’s movements wake you up. However, both mattresses are good at coping with sleepers of differing weights, with no danger of sleepers rolling towards each other. For an all foam mattress, the Emma Original actually provides pretty decent edge support. The Emma Hybrid is even better at edge support, with its layer of springs.

Although this mattress is classed as a medium firm, it definitely feels much softer, but not so soft that you disappear into it and are unable to move. It still felt like I was sleeping on top of the mattress, rather than sinking in, and while it doesn’t have quite the same bounce as a hybrid, moving around was still easy and comfortable. Memory foam adapts to your body perfectly, offering good relief of pressure points and allowing your muscles to relax fully. What better way to test it, than to actually sleep on it? As it wasn’t a free sample, I am not duty bound to be polite about it. I can be as honest as I like– and that’s how I prefer things 🙂 Emma has used hollow polyester fibres here, which regulates humidity effectively. The grey underside is made of 87% polyester and 13% polypropylene which makes it extra resistant to abrasion.
