About this deal

Well yes… and no. The game certainly seems to be a similar, squad-based skirmish game, where players will build small teams of characters with very different and individual powers to battle it out, but AMG have promised that this is very much a game in it’s own right rather than simply taking the rules from their Marvel-based game wholesale. AMG have promised plenty more details in the months leading up to the release date of June 2023 to keep us interested and our interests aroused over the next six months. The little teases. So Star Wars Fans Are Celebrating? Shatterpoint comes with a meaty and foreboding rulebook which makes learning the game pretty daunting. But if you can find a rules explanation video online you’ll discover that the core game flow isn’t that hard to get down: the complexity comes from covering all the conditions, like disarmed or strained, and edge cases that open-movement miniatures games like this can throw up. It’s a skirmish game, so the idea is that you can enjoy cinematic action with a small squad of troops, unlike Star Wars Legion which covers much bigger battles at less granular detail. Shortly prior to the First Battle of Geonosis, Mace Windu perceived Count Dooku to be a shatterpoint capable of ending the war. His attachments let his old friend live, however, and so Dooku was able to go on and initiate the Clone Wars. In only a short span of time, the shatterpoint that made Dooku the heart of the war disappeared. [5] Eventually Mace realized a number of shatterpoints connected with Anakin Skywalker, prior to Anakin's fall. Mace was also able to sense the Shatterpoint of Darth Sidious; his trust in Skywalker. Star Wars: Shatterpoint empowers players to alter the fate of the galaxy, from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim. Players build and command a strike team composed of iconic Star Wars characters and pit them against each other in exciting battles! The Sith Lord Darth Caedus used this ability to destroy the beskar-forged armor of the Mandalorian Protector Roegr. By tapping the breastplate lightly with the hilt of his lightsaber, Caedus was able to completely shatter the armor. When Caedus was still Jacen Solo, he destroyed the blasters of several Centerpoint guards merely by exerting Force pressure in the weak points. Luke Skywalker revealed that he too could perceive shatterpoints, and taught this to Jaina Solo. [2] [9] Battle: In Shatterpoint, players use their characters' special abilities and diverse combat skills to control the flow of battle as they race against each other to complete dynamically evolving mission objectives. When applied to physical items, shatterpoints worked much in the same manner. An individual would view an item through the Force, noting where it came together and also noting weak points in its composition. By allowing the Force to surge through them into the weak point, individuals could effectively "shatter" the object, causing it to break into multiple fragments. Because the Force granted supernatural ability to those who were adept in its use, materials thought to be near-indestructible were easily destroyed. Such was the case with Jedi Knight Jaina Solo, who effortlessly shattered a disc of pure Mandalorian iron while practicing the technique under her uncle, Luke Skywalker. [2] History [ ] This Star Wars: Shatterpoint core set review looks at everything in the box, from widgets to win-conditions, to judge whether Shatterpoint is an elegant wargame for a more civilized age, or just more bantha fodder. A review sample of the core set was provided by Atomic Mass Games.I sometimes can see the weak places in an opponent—shatterpoints where the unbreakable can be broken. They can occur in individuals…and in events." ― Mace Windu [3] Rogue Squadron ( audiobook) · Wedge's Gamble ( audiobook) · The Krytos Trap ( audiobook) · The Bacta War ( audiobook) Mace Windu is a living legend: Jedi Master, senior member of the Jedi Council, skilled diplomat, devastating fighter. Some say he is the deadliest man alive. But he is a man of peace—and for the first time in a thousand years, the galaxy is at war. I did some recess shading with Nuln Oil on the deeper parts of the models and painted Gar Saxon’s shield with 2-3 coats of Aethermatic Blue to get that forcefield effect. If you want to keep the deep blue towards the center of the shield I recommend propping him up on his belly so the shield faces downwards. This way the contrast paint will pool towards the center of the shield. Just like with the Clan Kryze characters I painted all the metallics with Iron Warriors and highlighted with Stormhost Silver.

Stover heavily references Shatterpoint, along with Labyrinth of Evil and numerous graphic novels, in his novelization of Revenge of the Sith. This is not our first Shatterpoint article, nor will it be our last. We’ve been excited about this new Star Wars adventure since the initial announcement and having gotten our hands on it and played a few games that hype has been fulfilled. Iconic characters from across the Star Wars galaxy clash in this new miniatures skirmish game! Star Wars: Shatterpoint invites players to collect, assemble, and paint their own squads of heroes, villains, and their allies and pit them against one another in tense duels to control key battlefield objectives. Focusing on dynamic fights between key characters and a unique combat system that brings the feel of epic Star Wars duels to the tabletop, Star Wars: Shatterpoint gives players 16 characters to begin building their squads along with a selection of terrain to begin constructing their battlefields. Rounding out the set are all the cards, dice, movement tools and accessory players need to leap into the tactical combat of Star Wars: Shatterpoint! The plot of Shatterpoint was highly influenced by both Joseph Conrad's book Heart of Darkness and the movie based on it, Apocalypse Now. This was chosen to give the story a gritty feel, and Matthew Stover describes the concept as arising in a brainstorming session, encapsulated in a single sentence: " Apocalypse Now with Jedi." The Core Set comes with a single set of missions called “Shifting Priorities”. Each set includes a set up card (Core Set is a 3×3 grid of equally spaced objectives) and 9 Struggle cards divided into 3 Phases. You’ll only play with 1 card from each Phase per match and these cards indicate exactly which objectives are Active. Details are clear yet, but AMG has indicated that new Mission sets are on the way as well.

Priming

I’ve had Anakin Skywalker batter Darth Maul the length of a walkway, then vault off and onto an objective held bya swarm of battle droids; seen Darth Maul rip Captain Rex off a gantry with the force to shove a Lightsaber down his throat; sent Mandalorians jetboosting out of combat to grab objectives; had B6 battle droids shoot into Anakin Skywalker, only to suffer more damage than they inflicted as he deflected their shots. The B1 Battle Droids are grouped three models to a base, similar to the Hydra Troops and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents from Atomic Mass’ sister game Marvel Crisis Protocol. This gives 12 ‘units’, with four units together forming a ‘squad’. Players can build their own squads of heroes and villains freely, though four suggested squads are provided in the box set to get you started. Sounds like just the kind of approach that fans of The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett have been waiting for.
