About this deal

When an intriguing novel appears on Catherine’s bedside table, she curls up in bed and begins to read. Many years ago a terrible incident occurred - an incident that Catherine has never come to terms with, has buried and tried to erase. So I got pretty annoyed and DNFed it, but I decided to skim to the end to see if there wasn't something I was missing. Disclaimer is a classic case in point - a much-talked-about debut suspense novel that sparked a bidding war and is already set to be translated into 20+ languages; you know the drill. The story is told in alternating chapters, Catherine's in the third-person and Stephen's in the first, as the two orbit each other, predator and prey, and the novel moves between the past and the present to paint a portrait of two troubled families with trauma bubbling under the surface.

A psychological thriller that should please even the most discerning thriller reader, the unsettling and ingenious plot of” Disclaimer” makes it stand out from the rest.Sadly, this debut left me fairly flat and I felt it lacked in the crucial spark and element of excitement that pulls the reader in. Catherine Ravenscroft leads a satisfactory life with her husband and son, when a mysterious book finds its way into her home and. Knight is a new author with some credits in television and one course in “Writing a Novel” behind her. If it was not for the excellent production and the voices of the two actors relating this story from Catherine's and Stephen's point of view, I would not have got to the end of this book. the inner lives and motivations of the main characters are well explored and I was always totally involved, gripped even.

S. Geological Survey, leading to “immediate suspension of the National Volcano Early Warning System,” and there’s always someone around looking to monetize the natural disaster and the sasquatch-y onslaught that follows.Brooks presents a case for making room for Bigfoot in the world while peppering his narrative with timely social criticism about bad behavior on the human side of the conflict: The explosion of Rainier might have been better forecast had the president not slashed the budget of the U.

A very good suspense filled story, one where it tales a while to like any of these characters, not too sure if I ever did but it didn't seem to matter. But Disclaimer fails too as a domestic drama, that kind where an indiscretion from a character’s past is unexpectedly revealed, threatening her marriage. Their son Nicholas has recently moved out and although he hasn’t achieved all they hoped, he seems stable and happy in his work.

There is an unexpected elegance to the plot that makes it work it better than many similar books I've read.

What it amounts to is that my normal existence as a reader happily reading and loving the bestsellers is now marked by moments of self-doubt and slight bewilderment. She withdrew into herself and lived apart from her husband Stephen who buried himself into his work. Unfortunately, it involves a rape scene - I really thought I was going to be able to make it through a crime/thriller novel without one, but yet again, no. When I was in my teens I went through a crime phase and read loads of Agatha Christie, then moved on to stuff like Minette Walters and Barbara Vine - this brought memories of those books back to me, even though I can hardly remember any of the titles of those I read.

The premise is excellent - who could fail to be intrigued by the idea of opening a book and the story being all about you? She is a graduate of the Faber Academy ‘Writing a Novel’ course, and lives in London with her husband and two children. But it is a story that the one person who would have been able to tell is dead and despite its significant bearing on her husband and son, Catherine has never uttered a word of to anyone.
