About this deal

I thought for sure that the names were going to throw me off, but the characters were so well defined that it never became a problem. When Akiva and Liraz reach Karou, she says that because they don't have a thurible of Hazael's soul she can't resurrect him.

It was just a little bit stagnant because pretty much this entire book was characters watching the war from the sidelines, whereas I think in book 3 they'll be more directly involved. Days of Blood and Starlight falls short of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but it is still more entertaining than not. She also lacks any sense of belonging - she has lost the chimaera family that was her anchor, she is viewed with suspicion and disgust for past transgressions by the army she serves, and she is still trying to bind her two lives into one coherent whole. So the both sides prepare for the war, angels with the their king, and the chimaera with the white wolf.

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a new way of living—one without massacres and torn throats and bonfires of the fallen, without revenants or bastard armies or children ripped from their mothers’ arms to take their turn in the killing and dying.

But this second book, as I said before, is a great successor, and elevated the series to another level! He eventually finds a thurible with her name on it in the caves where she grew up, and assumes she is dead. I am curious enough to see how everything will unfold that I will continue the series by reading the next and final book, Dreams of Gods and Monsters.Zuzanah and Mik travel to southern Morocco and risk their lives traveling to a spot in the travel blog that they think Karou might be. The aftermath of the war is continuing with seraphim killing innocent chimaera and the Revenants responding by cutting smiles into dead seraphim faces. and even though not much happened in this, i do think the series is headed in a good direction overall and i will most likely be picking up the next book! Obviously, I highly recommend this series, especially to fans of fantasy--in which I am not, so doubly great if you are! If she’s not careful, her days are numbered while she lives under Thiago’s ever-watchful and resentful eye.

There, she teams up with an unlikely ally to help rebuild the chimaera army and fight back against the seraphim. When Zuzana and Mik track her down, she's delighted to have her friends with her until she realises that Thiago will use them to make her do as he wants. But even within this desolate landscape Taylor also sprinkled in small flames of hope to keep us going. This is so much more than a cliche love story; it's about tragedy and war and prejudice and oh my god, please read it. Karou thinks the Revenants she is creating are being sent to Hintermost to protect innocent fleeing chimaera from the angels, but really they are being sent on counterattack missions to kill innocent seraphim. There's so much nuance to both the themes and the characters; this is a book you could analyze for hours. Unfortunately for me, my ship’s romantic moments were essentially non-existent in this book, as well…mostly because of the revelations that came to pass at the end of the first instalment. Breathe it in and hold it in my lungs for as long as possible before I’m forced to exhale or lose consciousness.

Akiva spends a month patrolling, training, practicing magic, interacting with his half-siblings - anything to keep his guilt and despair from overwhelming him.She thinks of Akiva often, despite her best efforts, but in place of passion, love and yearning she feels only anger, betrayal and shame. Karou gets a memory of Brimstone sealing the souls of a thousand dead women and children in a cathedral after the fall of Loramendi, and they could be gleaned and given bodies again. The same is done with Ten’s body, who was killed by Issa, and taken over by an old friend of Madrigal’s, Haxaya. Now that I’m finally reviewing ( arguably – as it changes on a day-to-day basis) my favourite book of all time, there is so much to discuss! For once, I’m really happy I didn’t start this series when it first came out because how can you possibly wait a whole year between each new release?
