About this deal

She went on to have two top-10 albums in the UK charts with Join The Club reaching seven in 2013 and Choices peaking at five in 2021. Posting a message on social media a week before the memoir is published, Spraggan described it as “the beginning of a new era” which she felt was “very freeing”. Friends and family always try to provide solutions based on what they know about you and what they build their life experiences on, but a good therapist will offer you not necessarily a solution but methods of coping, of thinking, that have been studied for years. They will offer you the ability to reconstruct the way you navigate things, and help you to be less defensive and less reactive, whereas people close to you can often inspire defensiveness and/or reactiveness because they know so much about you!

Spraggan auditioned for The X Factor in 2012, , performing her own composition " Last Night". [1] Spraggan quit her run The X Factor due to illness, finishing in ninth place, and second in her category. She later revealed in her biography, Process, that her departure was a consequence of her being raped by a porter in a hotel. Her debut major-label album, Join the Club, was released on 7 October 2013, reaching No 7 in the UK Albums Chart. [2] She has since released four more studio albums; the latest, Choices, was released on 26 February 2021 and debuted at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart. [3] The album was preceded by the singles "Flowers", "Roots" and "Sober". [4] [5] A spokesperson for Fremantle, the British TV company that produced The X Factor for ITV under its Thames TV entertainment arm, said: “The serious sexual assault suffered by Lucy Spraggan in October 2012 was a truly horrific criminal act for which the perpetrator, who was not connected with the programme, was rightfully prosecuted and imprisoned. He said:] ‘Lucy, before you or I say anything else, the first thing I need to tell you is that I am sorry’,” she explained, beginning to get upset (via Metro). “It makes me emotional…because no one else said sorry. He wasn’t even on [the show during] my year – he wasn’t even a judge – and he as a human being gave me everything I needed in two words.” Spraggan also recalled what it was like when Cowell reached out to her in an interview with BBC Breakfast, claiming that his apology meant a great deal to her as it was something that no one else offered. PROCESS looks at the behind the scenes of a reality music show and Lucy’s career in music, but it’s also so much more: it’s her childhood, her experience growing up as Max, the impact her friendships and family had on her life, her trauma (NB: content inc. suicide, sexual assault and substance abuse), the horrific treatment she received on the x-factor, her travels and, VERY importantly, her beautiful dog Steven.Through Syco, he has shown more interest in me as a songwriter than any other major label in the industry, and together we have much more power than in any other working relationship I’ve ever had. It can be easy to have certain perceptions of some people in the public eye, and how they run their business, but Simon’s company is actually part of a different process than what some people might think. I’m quite excited about being a part of it, and it’s a privilege for my songwriting skills to be utilised because, in my opinion, they haven’t been before.” Lucy Spraggan performs at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on May 18, 2023. CREDIT: Joseph Okpako/Getty Images She has a point. Despite the reasonable perception of The X Factor as having been little more than a breeding ground for musical theatre performers, television presenters and Celebrity That and Strictly This appearances, genuine talent occasionally got a look-in. For Spraggan – whose songwriting sits across earthy, confessional pop/folk, and whose sobriety has sharpened her faculties – linking with Cowell is a smart move. “Simon also created the Got Talent television shows across the world,” she says, “which means they have a platform for using songs in Syco’s catalogue. As television is still one of the biggest ways to get music out to people, it’s great for songwriters to have their songs synced and to profit from that via publishing rights.” One of my favourite things about this book is the inclusion of song lyrics and where Lucy was in her life when she wrote specific songs. I have loved her music since the beginning but hearing the reasons behind some of the lyrics makes it extra special.

Spraggan announced a headline European tour to promote her studio album I Hope You Don't Mind Me Writing (2017), starting at The Waterfront, Norwich on 1 March and concluding at the Gruner Salon, Berlin on 28 March 2017. The tour consisted of 18 dates in total. Summer festival highlights for Spraggan included performances at Hope & Glory (Wonders of the Age Stage), Isle of Wight (Big Top Stage), Glastonbury (Acoustic) and Tramlines (Sheffield). Lane, Daniel. "Lucy Spraggan chats about new single Lighthouse". Official Charts Company . Retrieved 28 August 2013. Anyone should feel safe when they are sleeping in a hotel room – and it is abhorrent to think that a hotel porter abused that trust in such a vile way. I knew that I'd been raped, but I could not process that. So I put my clothes on and went into autopilot." Whilst we have worked hard to try and protect Lucy’s lifetime right to anonymity, we applaud her strength and bravery now that she has chosen to waive that right.”The X Factor UK (25 August 2012), Lucy Spraggan's audition - Last Night - The X Factor UK 2012 , retrieved 13 May 2019 And while she received both financial and medical support in the immediate aftermath of the crime, she said, she wasn’t given any support after the trial. She wrote: "I woke up the next day with this sense of sheer dread. I don't think I've ever felt that level of confusion since. They’re all about the development of myself and other stuff I have learned or observed over the years,” she says. One of those observations is that she will persevere through anything. “Longevity in music – or any area, for that matter – doesn’t exist without perseverance, so clinging on to it is crucial. What’s hilarious is that now I think I’m a professional because everybody else thinks I am! However, in reality, I just persist.” Announcing her memoir on social media, Spraggan went on to describe the process of writing the autobiography as “freeing” and marking “the beginning of a new era”. She also thanked fans for their continued support as she goes to take “a break” from social media.
