About this deal

In conclusion, I think the connectivity on the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II speakers is pretty solid. With its multiple input terminals, dual grilles, and cork pads, you can easily build custom audio setups to enjoy a premium sound quality. Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II Review: Most & least ideal user profiles Overall, I think the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II speakers offer great sound quality. Although there is room for improvement, its quality components, such as the Tractrix horn, LTS Titanium Diaphragm Tweeter, and Cerametallic Woofer, ensures an engaging listening experience. Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II Review: Connectivity If that reads to you as bright or lean, think again. Yes it gets close but the Klipsch stops just short of crossing the line. That usually means the choice of amplifier is important, you don’t want to accentuate the tonal character. Yet even the tonally-light Marantz PM6006 amplifier worked well, which surprised me. Sure it was a sunlit sound. But even brightly recorded music like Quincy Jones’ ‘The Dude’ or Telarc’s ‘Olympic Fanfare’ from Erich Kunzel & The Cincinnati Pops etc – didn’t cross the boundary. Having received the royal seal of approval from the hi-fi press over the past five years, Klipsch have experienced a rather interesting resurgence in the audiophile community and that has proven to be somewhat of a double-edged sword.

They also fell short in the imaging and soundstage departments, and their dispersion pattern impacted the off-axis performance. The exclusive Linear Travel Suspension minimises distortion for enhanced, detailed performance. LTS tweeters are a hallmark of previous Reference lines, making it a core component of some of the best speakers in the world. VENTED TWEETER DESIGN I recommend turning the speaker about 20° out (facing out into the room) or using the speaker grille to help lower the high frequency tilt a bit.The Marantz PM6007 provides the best sound quality in its class and is capable of delivering 2 x 45W (8 ohms RMS, 20Hz - 20kHz), making it compatible with drive Klipsch RP-600M speakers. With independent volume and power controls, the Marantz PM6007 also includes a 3.5mm input to connect Android phones and laptops. The PM6007 is meticulously and masterfully tuned and comes with a high-quality DAC AK4490 for a cleaner sound. As standmount speakers go, this one is on the large side, measuring 400x202x330mm (HxWxD), so although the manufacturer calls it a bookshelf model, you'll need a pretty deep shelf to accommodate a pair. However you mount them – shelf or stand – cork pads at the base of the box are now used instead of the previous model's rubber bumpers to help protect the surface of any furniture that it is placed upon. One of the marquee features of the 600M II is a larger “Tractrix” horn which covers just about the whole top half of the speaker. Like the original, it’s still made of silicone to smooth the tweeter’s frequency response, but this time the larger area is said to improve efficiency, directivity, and soundstage. Semyon Bychkov’s newly released Mahler 1 with the Czech Philharmonic is a superb recording coupled to one of the best readings I’ve heard. The M2si and RP-600M II laid it all out in front of me in a huge soundstage. The music was expansive, explosive, stirring; goosebumps abounded. As with the best systems, analysis fell by the wayside as the music gripped me.

This Yamaha R-S202 Receiver has 40 preset FM/AM stations and a frequency response of 10Hz - 100kHz (0 plus/minus 0.5 dB / 0 plus/minus 3.0 dB). With an input sensitivity of 500 MV/47k ohms and speaker selector for two systems, the Yamaha R-S202 Receiver has an advanced circuitry design and is excellent for Klipsch RP-600M speakers. The Two channels of 100 W high-power output are provided by the R-S202BL, which matches RP-600M power specifications. So, with an R-S202BL receiver, you can drive the RP-600M speaker at loud volume levels without distortion. I had a slight preference for the sound of the RP-600Ms with their magnetically attached grilles in place, but my review observations were made without grilles. The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II speakers come with plenty of connectivity options that enable users to make customized and powerful audio setups. The rear panel of the speakers are equipped with dual input terminals, which can be used for Bi-Wiring and Bi-Amping. Through this, you can separate the high and low frequencies into each cable and add more power and clarity to the sound. It also has audiophile-grade wiring and aluminum binding posts that support almost any kind of connection type. The exclusive Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance. LTS tweeters are a hallmark of previous Reference lines, making it a core component of some of the best speakers in the world. I did perform additional testing (grille on) and have also provided some data for the effect of turning the speaker off-axis in the Estimated In-Room Response. Additionally, I have provided some overlays of the Estimated In-Room Response of various kinds toward the end of this review. Please read the graphic titles of each for identifying what the data is for. The Denon AVR-540BT powerhouse (Japanese precision technology receiver) is suitable for Klipsch RP-600M powerful speaker owners. The Denon AVR-540BT amplifier will boost low frequencies on your Klipsch RP-600M and provide more power for high-volume listening. The Denon AVR-540BT receiver offers an intuitive control panel that lets you tweak the audio settings and provide excellent sound quality to create the perfect listening experience. A signature feature on the Reference Premiere series, Cerametallic™ woofers are exceptionally rigid and lightweight for minimal distortion and maximum efficiency. New aluminum shorting rings reduce distortion as well as increased power handling and the new motor structure improve transit response with more control with greater speed and accuracy.

Strings were reproduced with strong levels of detail and slightly more color; the new tonal balance also made them less bright. Upper strings were slightly hard sounding on the RP-600M and I did not enjoy listening to them as much unless I turned the volume level down. Today, it is more likely that one will listen to music on a computer or smartphone than on a turntable, but choosing speakers to meet one’s taste remains a compelling reason for upgrading to an NAD amplifier. The amplifier is based on the original NAD 3020 idea and works well with the Klipsch RP-600M. The NAD Electronics D 3020 V2 also offers a phono input for vinyl playing and a 24/192 DAC with eight channels blended to 2 for enhanced resolution. The NAD D 3020 V2 has 30 watts per channel of power, and according to NAD, this 30W amplifier can provide 100W amplifier performance. And accordingly, when we powered the Klipsch Speaker, the sound was amazing. So, this classic NAD D 3020 amp is enough to drive the RP-600M speakers to loud volumes. It’s much the same story for the tweeter, where the new 600M proved to be surprisingly flat, but best of all, not the least bit fatiguing. While the speaker’s tweeter may be titanium it doesn’t ring or have that metallic sheen to its highs that you get with the 600 Anniversary Series from B&W. The V2s Highs are airy and extended but they simply do not shout at you nor do they become sharp at high volumes the way some metal dome tweeters can. If anything, at the absolute extremes –think anything above 14kHz – they’re more reserved or rolled off, trading the potential for shrill and fatiguing for breathy. While this speaker hits the highest of highs, it doesn’t do so with the same energy as the Sonus Faber Lumina IIs or the Monitor Audio Silvers, meaning, of the three, the Klipsch pairs a little better across a wider range of music genres, which is something I don’t believe I’ve said about any Klipsch speaker…ever! KLIPSCH RP-600MII SOUNDSTAGE PERFORMANCE Below you can see the front view size comparison of Klipsch RP-600M II and Klipsch RP-600M in scale. For home theater duties we incorporated the (older) RP-600C center speaker and Klipsch in-ceiling speakers using the Onkyo 7100 as well as the new Marantz SR8015 –both of which did an exceptional job and sounded great with the new 600M. I preferred the sound and flexibility of the SR8015 with the 600Ms to most everything we tried, though if I were going just off ABSOLUTE sound quality and nothing else, the Decware Zen Amp sounded the best overall so long as I didn’t attempt to hit peaks in excess of about 85dB in our larger room. The below graphic indicates just how much SPL is lost (compression) or gained (enhancement; usually due to distortion) when the speaker is played at higher output volumes instantly via a 2.7 second logarithmic sine sweep referenced to 76dB at 1 meter. The signals are played consecutively without any additional stimulus applied. Then normalized against the 76dB result. range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.

But the answer I know you’re looking for is which model is better? While I would not call the differences between the two night and day, that does not change my opinion that the new 600Ms are better and the ones I would buy right now given the choice. Does that mean you need to rush out and upgrade your old 600Ms or that you made a mistake buying the older model? No, I don’t think so; especially if you are happy with them. They are both solid speakers. HOW DOES THE 600M II COMPARE TO OTHER SPEAKERS? Early Reflections Directivity Index (EPDI): is defined as the difference between the listening window curve and the early reflections curve. In small rooms, early reflections figure prominently in what is measured and heard in the room so this curve may provide insights into potential sound quality. Fortunately, now we have the Spinorama data for a bunch of quite popular speakers. Pierre Aubert put all this untidy data together and put it into https://www.spinorama.org/. This is a stunning source. Pretty valuable stuff from him right there. Also like the 600M, the new model has dual input terminals for Bi-wiring or Bi-amping, but the 600M II uses exposed wire jumpers instead of metal straps like the first model. I actually like the original design better, as it looked cleaner, but the new 5-way binding posts are easier to access, so that’s a plus. Overall the sound is precise. Everything is in place, nothing added. The tonality focuses attention on the mid to upper frequencies more than the bass. Like drinking tea or coffee straight, or with just a splash of milk. Definitely no sugar. You get to hear everything going on.

Intro

Jumping over to home theater, I LOVED the new 600Ms for movies. They can absolutely anchor a surround sound system and feel completely cinematic! We weren’t able to get the new RP-500C II, so we relied on the older 600 center. While I could hear a subtle difference in tone and presence between the new 600M v2 and the old 600C –with the center sounding a little more forward and directional in comparison, the difference wasn’t THAT jarring. If you use auto room correction like Audyssey or DIRAC, the difference will be even less noticeable. My advice, if you have an existing Reference Premiere setup and are itching to try the new models, start with the left and right mains and perhaps center FIRST. What I wouldn’t do is throw out all your older RP speakers for newer models. When it comes to surround or overhead channels, I doubt you’re going to benefit THAT much. WHICH MODEL IS BETTER? KLIPSCH 600M VS 600M II At first glance –at least from the front –I doubt many would notice a difference between the original 600M and the 600M v2. The speaker is still a two-way, rear ported design featuring a one inch, vented titanium tweeter mated to a six and a half inch midrange driver. However, with version two, the tweeter sits inside a new, larger silicon Tractrix horn waveguide for greater dispersion. The cerametallic woofers also got an upgrade in the form of larger diameter voice coils and aluminum shorting rings, which (according to Klipsch) give the speaker better linearity throughout the bass, decreasing distortion while upping power handling resulting in improved speed and accuracy. These changes, along with the rear-facing tractrix port give the new 600M a reported frequency response of 44Hz to 25kHz which is unchanged from the previous model. The new 600M has an in room sensitivity of 94.5dB, which is a DECREASE compared to the original’s reported sensitivity of 96, though impedance is unchanged at 8 Ohms, meaning that like its predecessor, the new 600M isn’t going to be difficult to drive. The midrange was the most impressive feature of the RP-600M, but my experience also taught me that the loudspeaker’s performance was greatly influenced by the quality of the amplification and sources. Finishes include ebony vinyl and walnut vinyl that boast satin painted baffles with a scratch resistant finish.
