About this deal

Faithful readers of the books no doubt have a soft spot for the original cast who served as their Colonel-Commissar’s most trusted retainers. Synaptic disintegrators are the weapons wielded by Deathmarks; we always knew they somehow killed the brain, but it was always thought to be some kind of beam that burned out synaptic connections.

The Twice-Dead King: Ruin (Warhammer 40,000) [Paperback The Twice-Dead King: Ruin (Warhammer 40,000) [Paperback

Hello and welcome to this guest review here on Track of Words, where I’m opening up the floor to author Victoria Hayward to talk about Nate Crowley’s novel The Twice-dead King: Ruin, which is out now from Black Library. They’ll be joined by the nimble aircraft of the Asuryani in a rip-roaring dogfight between raw power and xenos grace. I'd be hard pressed to decide upon a favorite between the two, and I do feel that despite contrasting in their respective focus on comedy and tragedy, both authors approach the necrons from the same root and are in touch with all of their epic, entertaining, absurd, tragic and horrifying aspects. If you’re not familiar with the Necrons beyond the fact that they’re metal skeletons who aren’t very happy, these books will – hopefully – give you a hefty insight into what they’re about,” he adds. The outcome of the conflict actually surprised me and it also impressed me due to the sheer martial ability of the Necrons. And there you have it – six stunning miniatures that perfectly encapsulate the characters they represent from the novels. While it's impossible for the common soldiery to rise up or anything like that, the politics of the nobility have little to no such barriers.

The Twice-dead King: Reign by Nate Crowley | Goodreads

This satisfying and moving conclusion wraps up this leg of the story extremely well and treats the reader to some outstanding action sequences and some major emotional moments that will define the protagonist for the entire series.

To stick with Oltyx as the sole point-of-view of the novel supports this aspect of the story, as it immerses us in the biased and flawed, yet developing and learning subjectivity of a single individual rather than a seemingly objective and unbiased authorial take on things. This is easily one of the best Warhammer 40K tie-in novels I have had the pleasure of reading and I cannot wait to see what Crowley adds to this franchise in the future.

The Twice Dead King (Novel Series) - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum

Now that we’ve got the news of those incredible miniatures out of our system, let’s talk about… BOOKS. And let’s not forget the world’s most uncomfortably adorable Nurgling plush from our friends at Koyo. After some severe lows, combined with a couple of family reunions of variable enjoyment, the story leads up to an impressive and epic conclusion, loaded with war, destruction and sacrifice. This series is set to continue with the second entry, The Twice-Dead King: Reign, and I cannot wait to see what happens next.We have to take a moment to thank Dan for creating such an enduring and memorable cast of characters that mean so much to so many fans of Warhammer 40,000. He deftly hooks us into the pride, the fear, the horror of existing throughout the cold expanse of aeons and what remains of who you are when your physical self has gone.
