About this deal

He's from Oldham and was a bit of an accident, meaning that he essentially grew up like an only child with siblings who were much older. Listened as an audiobook and it was great hearing it told by Grimmy himself, took me right back to morning drives to school listening to his Radio 1 breakfast show, always made me laugh and this book did exactly that, but also had some really genuine moments too. Some, I hope will make you laugh, and some, are emotional AF, so I'm afraid these might make you cry. All these worries plait themselves into the otherwise extremely starry stories he tells in his book. Hanes DJ a chyflwynydd radio Nick Grimshaw sy’n cael ei adrodd yn Soft Lad, a ysgrifennwyd gan Grimshaw ei hun.

Been jumping in and out of reading Nick’s funny stories for a while, and I’m sad to have now heard them all. Things that are too London for the Grimshaws include, but are not limited to, yoga, oat milk, therapy and drinking a glass of water. I'm not really sure how I came to be aware of this book but I must have seen it being promoted somewhere on social media as it had been in my wish list for a while. Such is his jolly tone that it’s easy to dance across his anecdotes avoiding emotional pot holes, like the extreme enduring fear sparked from watching Edward Scissorhands as a “soft lad” growing up, or his father’s death or, as he puts it, describing an early appointment with a therapist.I haven't listened to Grimmy in years, and I hadn't realized how much I'd missed him until I started this. It won’t change the world but if you want to sit and have a brew and a chinwag with Nick Grimshaw this is the book for you. I cried in my kitchen while I made a batch of soup and smiled along the lakefront hearing him talk about his family and his childhood and his dreams.

It was such a comfortable read, and so authentic - I could hear him in the words when I was reading along. For all the little queer kids feeling left out in suburbia, feeling not at the centre of the party, they can make their own party. The book is his latest invitation to his noisy, cosy party, one that he’s determined to continue beyond Radio 1, all of us part of the straight-through crew. When I’m sitting here, and I’m not on the radio, I’m learning how not to be anxious, how to feel content. You know the feeling when you watch The One Show, and pop out to walk the dogs and you see in other houses, they’re watching The One Show, too?I had bookmarked this footage with the tag "you cry and your tears are blood" and wow, I didn't even really know the additional layers I could be moved by this story of two old friends who achieved everything they set out to do. Thinking about those party years slightly gives me the ick today’: Nick Grimshaw wears jumper by Marni at mytheresa. Put the big light on, they don’t like that,” etc), plus radio shows and The X Factor, so as well as your Kate Mosses and your Alexa Chungs, his guests are everyone who’s watching. These are Grimmy’s stories of things gone right and wrong across his life and career so far, with all the highs and lows and everything in-between.

These are Grimmy's stories of things gone right and wrong across his life and career so far, with all the highs and lows and everything in-between. Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. The various chapters focussing on different aspects/moments/people in his life were diverse and intriguing.

This makes me sound like such a loner, I will stress I grew up in a very busy household with two brothers and I loved that, but sometimes I needed to just be in my room and that's when the radio was on. Once we’d done trauma, mourning, gay guilt, regular guilt and Catholic guilt, we got on to the easy-breezy ‘Oh yeah, btw forgot to mention, I’m absolutely terrified of being alone. Over there is a marble coffee table and a Keith Haring print, over here a Memphis piece once owned by David Bowie.
