About this deal

The 5.5 x 11.75 x 6.25-inch dumbbells are super durable. After dropping them on both foam flooring and concrete, there was zero damage to the dumbbells—not even minor scratches. But there was damage to the concrete, so you should be careful not to drop them on your floor (they come with a warning from the manufacturer that says "do not drop"). During testing, we appreciated how grippy the dumbbells felt in our dry hands. But after the sweat test, we did notice some slipping and sliding, which made for an insecure grip during many overhead exercises. Overall, this durable pair is great for intermediate users looking for a space-saving set of high-quality adjustable dumbbells.

We also noticed that, although the adjustable dumbbells are slightly bulkier than regular dumbbells, they still maintain the traditional dumbbell shape (unlike many other adjustable dumbbells). This allows you to perform any traditional strength training exercise without having to alter your form. We love how easy these adjustable dumbbells are to adjust between exercises. We were also able to maintain a good grip on the dumbbells, even with wet hands, thanks to the grippy rubber handles. Verywell Fit writer Lindsey Lanquist has years of experience in the health and fitness space. For this piece, she prioritized adjustable dumbbells that were easy to use and genuinely well-reviewed by those who've tried them. She also made sure to feature adjustable dumbbells in a range of different weights and styles. After all, personal preference can vary a lot—and you deserve an adjustable dumbbell set that meets your precise needs. Weight Increments: 2.5 lbs, 5 lbs, 7.5 lbs, 10 lbs, 12.5 lbs, 15 lbs, 17.5 lbs, 20 lbs, 22.5 lbs, 25 lbs, 27.5 lbs, 30 lbs, 32.5 lbs, 35 lbs, 37.5 lbs, 40 lbs, 42.5 lbs, 45 lbs, 4 7.5 lbs and 50 lbs per hand.We appreciate that the weights are shaped like regular dumbbells and can be used for all exercises you would do with traditional dumbbells, without requiring you to alter your form or the way you hold them. And our grip was solid with both wet and dry hands. When testing, we adjusted between 15-20 pounds in a circuit of five exercises. Changing the weight between exercises took less than 10 seconds from finishing one exercise, adjusting the weight, and then getting ready for the next exercise. After completing a strength training circuit of three upper body and two lower body strength training exercises, the Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbells were the clear overall winner of our test with their impressive weight range and ease of adjustment as the standout features. These adjustable dumbbells ship fully assembled, although you need to use the included Allen wrench to free them from the strap that holds them in place upon delivery. Again, while the caged handle doesn’t bother me, I recognize that people used to lifting with traditional fixed dumbbells might not like the feeling. It might take some getting used to. But, it’s a small sacrifice to make considering the big value you get from these. A Little Noise You can adjust each dumbbell from 10 to 50 pounds, in 10-pound increments, which is great if you're only looking to replace five sets of weights. But if you're a beginner who wants to progress at a slower pace, we recommend FitRx's Adjustable Dumbbells that adjust in 2.5-pound increments from 5 to 52.5 pounds. With that being said, we did find this ProForm pair to be super simple to adjust with just the turn of a handle.

The extender options are absolutely worth it for those who lift heavier and need more weight; the non-expandable options are a great value for people who don’t need lots of weight. We also consulted with experts for safety cues and buying advice for adjustable dumbbells. The experts we spoke to included: Thanks so much, this thread is excellent. I’ve got the U-90 and am wondering if the current PRO urethane coated expansions are compatible? They look roughly the same size and shape, but obviously that could be incorrect. Reply In that tiny amount of space, you get (again, depending on the model), between 5 and 90 pounds in 5-pound increments, replacing anywhere between eight and 28 pairs of dumbbells. The Commercial Pro Series can go all the way to 175 pounds (though, I won’t lie, they do start feeling pretty clunky at that point). That’s an excellent choice, Craig! That’s the set I own (though I have all 3 stages). You’ll be able to expand later if/when you need to. And having access to the accessories is a plus, if you plan to use them (I find the Kettlebell handle attachment is the one I use most these days, by far). ReplyHi, Alex. I used to have the U-90 Stage 4 Set, 125 lbs, and got rid of it… because I wasn’t thinking straight. Major regrets now. It’s difficult for me to choose a clear-cut winner between the Elite 90 and the Sports EXP Stage 3. It’s pretty much a tie… Although these dumbbells don't ship assembled, it took us less than five minutes to fully assemble them, without needing any tools. Like the Bowflex weights, Core Home Fitness' Adjustable Dumbbells are simple to use. We were able to easily adjust the weights from exercise to exercise with a simple twist of the handles. However, we still think the Bowflex pair is superior for adjustability because it adjusts in 2.5-pound increments up to 25 pounds and offers 15 weights in one, while this pair adjusts in 5-pound increments and only offers users 10 weights in one. to 4.7 stars: These dumbbells are excellent—they might have minor flaws, but we still recommend them.

There is a sound of metal on metal since they're not one piece, solid dumbbells. Even though they are strong and durable, you still have to be more careful with them, and you certainly don't want to drop them If at all possible. The PINROYAL 4 in 1 Adjustable Dumbbell Set is versatile enough to be used as a set of dumbbells, a barbell, or a kettlebell but is not easy to adjust between exercises. to 5 stars: These are the best adjustable dumbbells we tested. We recommend them without reservation. Handle: The open draft of the interior surface maximizes the range of motion and increases ergonomics with the contoured rubber grip. The Ativafit Adjustable Dumbbell has a small weight range that is good for beginner lifters but comes as a single dumbbell rather than a set.

This video shows the Sport 24 at the 0:09 timestamp. NOTE: it shows a previous design of the Sport 24, with the main differences being the colors/aesthetics (not function/specs). Sport 5.0 – Discontinued You can build muscle and get stronger with adjustable dumbbells. Besides the way they look, they work the same way as traditional fixed dumbbells, and they provide adequate resistance for you to train the working muscles to the point that they are stimulated or even to the point of failure. Adjustable dumbbells can be a great option for people who want to build muscle. How many dumbbells do adjustable dumbbells replace? If you want affordable adjustable dumbbells, the Bowflex pair are a great option. Although they don't get very heavy, they are a great option for beginners and those who do not need more than 52.5 lbs per hand. The only downside, we found them to be slightly less durable than other dumbbells on our list. The dumbbells stayed intact when dropped on gym flooring, but a small piece of one of the dumbbells chipped off when they were dropped on concrete flooring. But rest easy knowing these dumbbells come with a two-year warranty. They are expandable to 90 lbs. Even very advanced lifters rarely need more than that. If they do, it’s only for a small handful of exercises (e.g. one arm row, dumbbell bench press). Alex, THANK YOU! I appreciate you taking the time to put this review together. I was searching trying to figure out the difference between the new pro series and the commercial set (and other than the handle and warranty, they seem to be a very similar set). Again, thanks for doing this and I hope you have a great holiday! Reply
