How I was rescued from a fate too grisly to contemplate, to become constant companion to a man who is not only one of the world’s greatest spiritual leaders and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but who is also a dab hand with the can opener. I’ve read numerous books about and by the Dalai Lama over the years, and I had the good fortune of hearing him speak twice.

The next three go down a notch at each book due to the authors desire to ensure new readers catch up on the background of all the characters and its a bit repetitive if you have been reading from the start. Narrated from the cat's point of view, the book tries to teach the reader basic tenets of Buddhism without making the book sound like a self help.Added to these are insights into the theory of Karma (my mother explained it as - what goes around, comes around). I am about to start at the beginning and read them more slowly so I can incorporate the teachings of little Rinpoche more fully into my life.

And, yes, when I sit down to meditate my little Rinpoche, Zuzu, finds her way to my lap…indeed my meditation cushion is one of her favourite spots to curl up. If you believe that cats have many lessons to teach us, reading this enchanting book will be a transformational experience for you. I forget what the actual Buddhist term for this is, but it's definitely something i need to practice in my own life. I was attracted by the title of this book and hence took it up without knowing anything about the subject.What this book does offer, however, is a multitude of honestly intriguing and thought-provoking life lessons; it is a quick and delightful read. Every book “takes a village” and in this case the village includes our wonderful designer Sue Campbell, Hay House editors. Take for example, the pursuit of mindfulness: maybe the most important thing I learned from this book is to be mindful of every activity you do throughout the day. It’s hard to believe, dear readers, but we are once again at that intriguing stage of the publishing process where we have to choose a cover for the next Dalai Lama’s Cat book – Awaken the Kitten Within!
