About this deal

A direct competitor to the Magician X* is the Anycubic Vyper*, which you should therefore also take a closer look at. The devices are almost identical in terms of specifications and the price of the Vyper is also in the same range.

Both devices also have a touchscreen, which makes it very convenient to use. However, the point here goes to the Vyper. At 4.3 inches (approx. 11 cm), the display of the Anycubic device is noticeably larger than the 3.5-inch screen of the Magician X from Mingda. A bit unusual, but not annoying: The touchscreen of the Vyper is in portrait mode and almost looks like a smartphone. Nevertheless, the menu in the Magician X is very clear. If the flow rate is set too high, over-extrusion will occur, which can lead to various print errors. There is simply too much filament being extruded per second that has to go somewhere. Excessive stringing or the formation of blobs can be the result.

Customer Reviews

Don’t worry about your filament running out in the middle of a 3D Print. The Magician X 3D Printer includes a sensor that will detect the filament and pause the printer before it runs out. This allows you to swap filaments and resume printing, saving any prints that were currently in process. The optimal print bed temperature for PLA filament is 50-70 °C. With the Magician X I have had very good experiences with 60 °C. Since the print bed has a very good adhesion, you have some leeway here and do not need to optimize too much. Flow rate calibration is important to get the best results from your 3D printer. To calibrate the flow rate, you can print a calibration object. There are a number of different objects, but I recommend the calibration cube from Cura’s Calibration Shapes plugin. It’s a very easy object to print that will help you find the perfect flow rate. When 3D printing with filament, there are a few critical print settings to consider. The most important are the print temperature, the temperature of the print bed, the print speed and the retraction.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a soft and flexible thermoplastic that is commonly used in 3D printing for prosthetic parts, cell phone cases, and other items that need to be elastic. TPU filament is more difficult to print than PLA or ABS because it has a very low glass transition temperature. The X and Y belts of a 3D printer are critical in the accuracy of your 3D prints. Regardless of printer make and model, you’ll need to keep an eye on the tensino of the belts – particularly after a lot of use. The Magician X 3D Printer makes it easier than ever to tighten the X and Y belts with large ergonomic knobs. Compare these with screws and other tiny mechanisms that are often used to refine the tension of belts. Belt Tensionor on the Magician X 3D Printer Built-in Toolbox (Storage)

What’s in the box?

Here you see the print result after the machine paused and I swapped in a second coil of filament. If you look closely you can see the transition between the two slightly different PLA materials, just below the eyes. There are a few things to consider when printing the first layer: The first layer should be printed at a slower speed than the rest of the print. This gives the plastic more time to adhere to the build plate and prevents it from coming off as easily during printing. There are a number of different infill patterns that can be used in 3D printing, each has a different stability and therefore different applications:

Use the arrow keys on the right side of the screen to scroll up and down the files. Locate the GCODE file you want to print and tap its name. The printer will then begin preheating the print bed and extruder. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is used as the printing technique. The extruder can work with the materials acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS), thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polylactide (PLA). Most of the operational action takes place on the very responsive touch screen. At first I quite appreciated the bright display with its clear navigation icons, but then it became somewhat frustrating. SD card contents on the the Magician X 3D printer [Source: Fabbaloo]

Hardware specs

The positioning accuracy of the Magician X is also decent. The manufacturer specifies an accuracy of up to 0.0125 millimeters for the x-axis. The same applies for the x-axis, of course. For the z-axis, on the other hand, it is even only 0.002 millimeters of accuracy. This 3D printer is super easy to assemble and included well-written instructions, with pictures and iconography for each step. Overall, this printer is sturdy and durable and includes a unique carrying handle.
