About this deal

Either option makes tackling a pile of wet washing ten times easier and eliminates that dreaded ‘damp washing’ smell that can haunt colder laundry days. A heated airer looks like a regular airer, except the rails heat up when you plug the unit into a power socket. That means drying space is more limited – you can only hang 18 items on hangers within the pod which means it isn't going to cope with a full washing machine load – but on testing, we were extremely impressed with the drying times, with clothes drying in 1-3 hours, dependent on thickness, compared to 8-12 hours on a classic heated airer.

When I powered up the airer for the first time, I had to check to make sure it was definitely on, as it seemed to take a while to heat up, compared to heated airers that I had used before. Positioning a standard clothes airer a couple of feet from a radiator is a slightly better idea as items will dry more quickly, and your radiator will still heat the room efficiently, but you will still probably end up having to turn it around several times to get everything dried evenly – especially if it’s heavily laden with washing. As with all heated airers, if you lay the clothes down on the heated shelf, rather than hang them up, they dry more quickly. Key specs – Open dimensions: 140 x 73 x 68cm (HWD); Closed dimensions: 140 x 73 x 10cm (HWD); Drying space: 21 metres; Weight: 4. It didn’t distribute heat as evenly as some other models, and it struggled with heavier garments, but it’s inexpensive and has the lowest running cost of all at two pence an hour. The Black and Decker 3-Tier Heated Airer is ideal for a convenient, easy-to-use and cost-effective solution to dry your washing. Instead of your clothing rack being exposed to the world, it sits behind a fabric covering that zips up completely to hide your unmentionables and more – it’s essentially a heated portable wardrobe.

Once these had been removed, I unfolded the sides and the shelves one at a time before using the attached plastic brackets to hold them securely in place. Each tier opens independently so you can configure the airer for drying anything from larger bed sheets to rows of socks, t-shirts and trousers. Reviewer Laura Cooke lives in a four-bedroom house in Sussex with her husband and two kids, aged four and six. Or, if you're looking for a more affordable alternative, our Appliance Editor, Molly, tried this heated clothes airer TikTok hack and found it reduced drying times. It’s estimated these devices cost between 10p to 20p an hour to run, making them cheaper to use than a tumble dryer.

It also comes with clips to secure the hanger when it's folded up for storage, and a useful clip-on container for the plug to stow away into once you've folded it up – little things that do make for a more hassle-free user experience. Laura is also a freelance journalist and has written articles for publications including the Daily Mirror, the i, Metro, Stylist and Happiful magazine. It’s got the same small holes at the top that other pod-style dryers have, and the clever position of the zip at the top allowed us to control the amount of air circulation, which will come in especially handy when drying extra-damp garments. The downsides are that the fan does make for a noisier addition to the household than a silent railed rack – we found that we definitely wanted this option set up in a room with a closed door rather than one we were using – and, the setup is more time-consuming.Don't let the changing seasons put a damper on your barbecue plans; invest in a high-quality barbecue cover today to preserve your grill's longevity and keep those autumn flavours sizzling all season long. Often, we do two loads of laundry a day, so we tested the larger airers to see if they could really hold 15kg of washing. And with regards to the cover, Mumsnetters swear by the old fitted sheet hack, which has worked well for me in the past too.
