About this deal

ANSI FL1 standards: The runtime is measured until the light drops to 10% of its initial output (30 seconds after turning on). This does not mean that the flashlight is not usable anymore. The last column shows how long the light actually works till it shuts off. If there is a + symbol, it means that the test was stopped at that particular point, but the light was actually still running. This happens on certain occasions, with certain drivers, firmware, or batteries. Peak beam intensity and beam distance measurements Mode Modes:Simple and Advanced UI both have manystandard and blinky modes available, but the main modes are stepped and smooth ramping, but stepped ramping is only available in Advanced UI, and smooth is enabled in both Simple and Advanced.

Yes, memorizes last on state setting either smooth or stepped ramping, but does not remember blinkies This section is not comprehensive. If I didn’t include a particular light here, it doesn’t mean it’s bad or doesn’t deserve to be here. I simply cannot list every possible competitor. Conclusion Another great way to tell, thanks to a reader is to see what the lowest level of ramping is. Advanced UI has a quite low low. Simple UI has a much higher “lowest level.” LED and Beam Smarter Indicator: with green/ blue/ orange/ flashing led indicator to inform us about changing modes or charging status

Sofirn has used four Cree XHP50.2 emitters in the Q8 Pro. Mine are 5000K, but the most available option is 6500K. Thermal regulation: works really well. Anduril 2 has some of the best thermal regulation available. It actively raises/lowers the brightness of the light in response to temperature fluctuations to ensure you get as much brightness as possible without overheating. Measurement disclaimer: Testing flashlights is my hobby. I use hobbyist-level equipment for testing, including some I made myself. Try not to get buried in the details of manufacturer specifications versus measurements recorded here; A certain amount of difference (say, 10 or 15%) is perfectly reasonable. What’s Included

USB Type-C Charging: USB-C connection for fast charging of three 21700 batteries, in addition, this powerful flashlight can operate as a power bank to charge other portable devices. I find that these fin edges to have anodizing that’s a bit frail. Just a bit of usage and the anno will probably begin to wear off. Below you can also see the stainless bezel. This bezel has a bit of shape, and that’ll allow light to escape when headstanding. Well, the output from the Sofirn Q8 Plus flashlight is quite fantastic, first of all. I don’t just love 6500K but that’s what Sofirn sent, and I do appreciate the high output numbers. The user interface is great, of course, because Anduril 2 is great! The e-switch is very nice, and USB-C charging works well, too. I’m disappointed we lost the powerbank feature that the Q8 Pro had, though. Long Review The Big Table Sofirn Q8 Plus flashlight Sofirn Q8 Pro: predecessor to Q8 Plus, four LED’s instead of six, four 18650 batteries instead of three 21700 batteries, I measured about half the output of Q8 Plus from Q8 Pro, stainless steel bezelIn fact, the output can go up to 4A if you discount the voltage drop – at 4A the voltage (output) drops to around 4V. That’s “out of spec” for USB, so let’s only consider what the output can be while around 5V. At 5V, the Q8 Pro can steadily output 3A. And not just a small bit of 3A output. It’ll output 3A until the powerbank shuts off with low voltage protection. In my case, that was around 3.11V. This is actually completely perfect, and the ideal scenario. Built to Last: The Q8 plus is constructed from Aerospace grade 6061 grade aluminum alloy and drop resistant to 1 meter. With an IPX8 waterproof rating, the Q8 Plus can withstand any harsh weather conditions. There are two versions of the Sofirn Q8 Plus flashlight, but they differ only in emitter temperature. There are 6500K (seen here) and 5000K. Either can be had with or without cells. Price The Sofirn Q8 Pro is not for the small handed. I am 6’2” and 215 pounds (Thanks holiday food!) and it fits well in my hands, but dwarfs the hands of my children. That being said, in my hands, it feels quite good. The knurling gives quite a lot of grip so I had no fear of it falling (again), even though it is very smooth. The Sofirn Q8 Pro flashlight uses four 18650 cells and has four Cree XHP50.2 emitters. The e-switch has an indicating feature, too! Read on!

The ANSI runtimes were only as good as they were due to the fact that there is a ton of immediate drop in output before that 30 second mark. If it were based off of the initial output, the higher mode runtimes would be SIGNIFICANTLY shorter, like, in the 5 minute range. On a surprising note, this is the first time I have seen a set of runtimes with over half of the modes running over 24 hours. Yes, this meant it took a while to get these runtime tests completed, but not having any specified information directly from Sofirn meant I didn’t know exactly what to expect, ergo, the TESTS MUST CONTINUE!! (Sorry, I am a dork) Of course, this new driver has a Type C port for built in charging. And also acts as a battery bank, providing outward charge to, say, a phone. And it is an FET + 1 but times three. Three banks to the emitters in 3 pairs. Thus, one FET and it’s accompanying 7135 chip supply two XHP-50.2’s. Easier on the FET obviously and thus a cheaper version can be used. Still, the 22 ga wires are carrying something like 16-18 Amps so for me, insufficient. The built-in thermal control automatically adjusts brightness output to prevent overheating. The "6" in the IP68 rating represents the level of protection against solid objects, specifically dust and foreign particles. It indicates that the Q8 Plus flashlight, is fully protected against the entry of dust and other solid objects. The "8" in the IP68 rating indicates the highest level of protection against water ingress. More convenient: powered by 3* 21700 batteries with a USB-C charging port, the batteries can be charged whilst in the light. If you prefer the batteries are removal/replaceable. First, the table for Either User Interface. These actions work whether you’re in Simple or Advanced UI. StateThe tailcap is removable, but there’s no point; it’s a dumb tailcap. I don’t believe it even carries any current. So while it’s removable (maybe in case you want to do maintenance on the inside or something), there’s no need to do so. This flashlight covers SO MUCH distance! It’s truly amazing, especially for how small it is (it is small for how much light it produces, but it’s on the heavier side). I will say that compared to the Sofirn Q8 Pro (which I reviewed a year ago yesterday!), the build quality of this Sofirn Q8 Plus is much better. That’s not to say the Q8 Pro is bad (it’s not!) but the edges on this Plus version seem to wear better. It’s worth noting that I am not sure what the highest regulated level is for this light. The button LED switches from low to high mode when going from level 65 to 66, which usually indicates that’s where the highest regulated output is. However, my testing showed level 67 to be perfectly regulated so the highest regulated level must be 67 or higher. The beam has wide, bright spill with six large flower petals on the edges. The hotspot is narrower than I expected and provides decent throw.
