About this deal

It is, for the most part, an intimate story that suddenly gains a whole new element with the discovery of Jetfire and the establishing the Transformers' presence in this universe. It's Some Kind of License: Skybound has been aggressive about working with LEGO, Creepshow and other licensed partners (including the still- unannounced Transformers and GI Joe comics from Hasbro but would any publisher debut some kind of shared universe without announcing it, really? For as awful as their relationship is, Darak is still his son, and Dulin is tormented by the possibility of the greater good costing him his child.

It’s not a comic likely to interest new readers in Battle Chasers, but it’s interesting if you remember this book from when you were a kid (as I do), as well as from the standpoint of just how unlikely it is that these issues are being made at all.And if so, should we consider everything from the Energon Universe to be fair game for future movie development…? Back at ComicsPRO in February, Skybound’s Morgan Perry announced Void Rivals, a new ongoing comic book series by Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici.

Robert Kirkman explains THAT jaw-dropping Void Rivals twist

Our main characters are space-marooned on some desolate planet, and although they are from the aforementioned warring factions, the only way they can survive is by working together. Who knows what the future holds, we'll just have to see, but right now, there are no plans for that. the Transformers in a story that is explicitly not a Transformers story, Kirkman and Void Rivals artist Lorenzo De Felici have significantly expanded the mythology of the Energon Universe already. What made Jetfire crash onto the planetoid, and is it related to the same accident that sends Optimus Prime et al to Earth in Daniel Warren Johnson's upcoming Transformers series? In issue four, Solila and Darak seem in the clear after the former turns over the latter to the Zertonian government, who intend to trade him back to Agorra as a war prisoner rather than hurt him, meaning they can put everything that's happened and all they've learned behind them.only for it to turn out to be a Transformer who takes off for home shortly after being awoken, leaving the stranded aliens behind.

But as a fan, to be reading a comic and get to page 16 and a Transformer shows up, I thought that would be the coolest thing in the world for me as a reader if I were to see that in a comic. Inside Skuxxoid's spaceship, Darak and Solila try to escape, but they find several dangers, including a Quintesson Prosecutor who guides them to the ship. They weren’t (obviously) created to sell and market toys, but they were backwards engineered really well to feel that way.

IGN Skybound Acquires Transformers and G.I. Joe Comic Book - IGN

I appreciate that's a different publisher, but might there be room for crossovers with those titles? Everyone Has Standards: Despite treating his son like shit, when Dulin is confronted with the idea of Darak being executed to keep the conspiracy a secret, he is visibly distressed and heartbroken by the situation. Government-Exploited Crisis: It quickly becomes apparent that the "war" between the Agorrians and Zertonians is a False Flag Operation of sorts; the leaders of both sides are really allies aware of the shared origins of their people and the true nature of the Sacred Ring and conceal it while pitting their people against one another for unclear reasons, possibly to maintain control.

Void Rivals serves as the first entry in the Energon Universe: A Shared Universe incorporating Transformers and G. It's something that's unique to the comic space, and it's something that the MCU has replicated in the movies that's made it something super special. That those "entirely new concepts" happen to be co-created by the man behind the wildly successful Walking Dead franchise might be the icing on the cake, but it's some pretty exciting icing for a lot of people, I suspect.
