About this deal

Breathing and movement alerts: Think about whether a breathing and movement monitor, complete with a sensor mat, will reassure you or make you unnecessarily anxious. To achieve a better reception and longer communication range, rotate the antenna to a vertical position. Lucy developed a real passion for blogging and writing when her children were young, and has used and reviewed a number of baby monitors with her daughters, testing key features to ensure quality and value for money. With intuitive buttons that allow you to pan the camera around in all directions, talk to them through the monitor, and raise and lower the volume, this easy-to-use system takes no time at all to get used to and even allows you to zoom in if you think you see something suspicious.

We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review... How did this product make your life easier? The motion sensor works via batteries (which aren’t included) but positioning the motion pad is relatively straightforward, placing it underneath the mattress where your baby is positioned during the night. What is the audio and video quality like? Alex: I personally would not have chosen a product with the movement pad, whilst it was great to have peace of mind it is not something that I would want to spend extra money on to have. I also found it very difficult to set up the movement pad and had to refer to the online user guide to fix which is not something many new mums may have time to do. I also have the BT 6000 which is much better value for money. What changes would you make to this product? The Sensor Pad LED will light up GREEN and flash to show the connection is good and continuous movement is detected from child. Walk around your house and garden with the parent unit, ensuring that you can hear the sounds from the baby unit at all times. The monitor will work up to a distance range of approx. 300m. Note: To activate your movement sensor mat, set the movement monitoring function to ON in the menu.

Turn the camera light to “On”, “O_” or “VOX”. In VOX mode, the night light will be on once the camera detects baby’s cry and go off when the room becomes silent. It also offers 1080p video footage for clear visibility. The item is lightweight and extremely easy to set up, although you will need Wi-Fi to set it up and operate it. It comes in either baby blue or baby pink and has little teddy bear (blue) and bunny (pink) ears on top of the camera as an extra little design perk. It’s also made from safe and non-toxic materials. The motion sensor pad is very sensitive even on the lowest setting, which can increase anxiety if the alert goes off Only pair the camera with the movement sensor pad after pairing between the parent unit and the camera(s) is complete, otherwise the system will not operate properly. Ensure movement sensor mat has batteries inserted. This Tommee Tippee dreamee sleep and nursery monitor gives you peace of mind by allowing you to keep a close eye and ear on sleeping baby without disturbing their rest.

Leave to charge for 4 hours or until the red light indicator turns off. Note: The battery life of the movement sensor mat lasts up to 90 days. New babies love to sleep in the dark, which promotes the release of melatonin, a hormone crucial to your baby settling and sleeping well. With Dreamee’s powerful infrared LEDs, you can rest assured you’ll enjoy a clear view of your little one even in the darkest of rooms, as the night vision on this camera is superb. Dreamee’s parent unitAlex: I would maybe recommend this to other mums as the camera is very high quality, especially the night vision. Once the sensitivity of the movement pad has been correctly adjusted it is great to give parents peace of mind. However, I do not feel it is very good value for money. I also feel like this product is better aimed at newborn babies who do not love around much, as I have a 9-month-old who actively moves around her cot bed and the movement pad only covers a small section of her cot. To help you make an informed decision, we rigorously test baby monitors on an ongoing basis. Our parent testers try out the monitors at home with their own children, in real-life conditions. We score each model based on a number of factors including video quality, ease of set-up, connection and design. We also consulted experts from The Lullaby Trust and spend hours combing the Mumsnet forums to see which baby monitors are recommended as best buys and which come with words of warning according to the UK's biggest network of parents.

If you prefer not to use the pole, the petite camera can be removed and placed directly on a straight and sturdy surface on its own. This is a rechargeable camera so it doesn’t have to be plugged in to operate, so there are no hazardous wires anywhere near your baby. The battery life is impressively long and can comfortably last all night, but it’s advisable to charge it daily to ensure it never runs out of juice. Whilst a motion sensor can provide peace of mind for parents, there is a slight risk that the sensitivity of the Tommee Tipeee Dreamee motion pad could actually heighten anxieties through false alarms, especially with smaller, younger babies. Battery life: According to Which?, the average battery life for an audio monitor is 13.5 hours, while a video monitor's is just seven. Think about how long you'd need the battery to last as most baby monitors will need recharging daily. The camera offers 480 x 272 resolution, which is pretty low, but the infrared night vision is adequate and the screen also shows the room temperature. We found this was always two degrees lower than the Gro Egg thermometer we had in the room (almost in the same location), but it gives you a general idea of the rough temperature. Simply position the pad lengthways under the mattress directly underneath where your baby sleeps. The monitor’s movement sensor pad is sensitive and can detect even small movements. The mat will alert you if your baby is still for a prolonged period of time, or if there’s a sudden big movement in their sleeping area.

The built-in room thermometer is great for peace of mind during peak hot and cold seasons and can reduce the need for a stand-alone nursery thermometer. It’s worth noting however that this rounds up to the nearest whole degree; so not as specific as some stand-alone thermometers. Is the Tommee Tippee Dreamee safe? Now press and hold the alarm button on the side of the sensitivity control box while switching on the movement sensor pad by turning the dial towards high. Bringing your newborn baby home can be overwhelming. With a 4.3” night vision monitor, cry sensor and motion pad in one handy set, the Tommee Tippee Dreamee can provide additional peace of mind to help parents get some much-needed shut-eye between night feeds.
