About this deal

Zino: the gentleman's sanctum, cloaked in wildflowers, earth, must, ash, and tweed, with a gossamer layer of perspiration. Dark, brooding, passionate, educated and astute, yet the progeny of the working class. Even though I don't consider Zino a special scent, and though they are clearly updated variations on Zino's scent profile, I can appreciate it's influence on future fragrances like Guerlain Heritage and Tom Ford Beau de Jour, which I think are improvements on an already interesting and timeless idea. Zino is a very nice and quite original fragrance for its time. I don't think it deserves its reputation of being dated and old-school, and is a victim of its time. If it came out in the 2010s or 2020s, I doubt people would associate it with all the bold and aggressive fragrances of the 1980s. After numerous disputes over quality and ownership rights, Zino Davidoff and Cubatabaco decided to end their relationship. Leading up to this, in August 1989, Zino had publicly burned over one hundred thousand cigars that he had deemed of low quality and unfit to sell. All Davidoff products produced in Cuba were officially discontinued in 1991. An agreement was signed that no more Davidoff cigars from Cuba would be sold.

Basenotes

There are different types of Zino cigars: a Short Torpedo (4 x 52), a Robusto with (5 x 54) and a Toro (6 x 50). All cigars have the same blend of filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua with a Nicaraguan binder and an Ecuadorian wrapper. The brand Davidoff is licensed to French-American company Coty, Inc. for the fragrances business, [7] to Menrad for the eyewear business, [8] to German coffee chain Tchibo for the coffee business, [9] and to Thomas Hine & Co. for the cognac business. [10] History [ edit ] Davidoff Café bottle In 1967, Zino Davidoff was approached by Cubatabaco, Cuba's state tobacco monopoly, about creating a line of cigars carrying the "Davidoff" name. The cigars were rolled in the newly established El Laguito factory in Havana, which had been established to roll Cuban President Fidel Castro's own personal cigars, named Cohíba. For those who see Zino as just too weird, or dated, or feminine, it’s worth looking at some of its contemporaries, especially those that used rose, lily-of-the-valley and other florals as central to their composition—like many of the fabulous early Estee Lauder scents like Aromatics Elixir (1971) and Aramis 900 (1973) and the legendary JHL (1982) and Lauder for Men (1985). Zino is in great company here, and not all that different from these or from Obsession (1986) which came out the same year, or it’s slightly older floral patchouli brother, Giorgio for Men (1984), with its similarly stunning patchouli drydown. These would be followed at the end of the decade by Boucheron Pour Homme (1989), another seminal men’s fragrance with rose and soap at its heart. Not all so long ago really. But now from a totally different era. I knew that this amazing juice was discontinued for at least 2 years or more. It's a shame that the industry has moved away from a cologne/purfume that has a decent range without breaking the bank. Most current mainstream stuff with an affordable price point is meant to be disposable. Think of how many people are investing in a good quality furniture or appliances? Most are buying in the NOW, in time it will discarded and that's what these companies want so they can increase their profits instead of spending a few dollars more to maintain the quality you expect. Instead the ingredients used today are often substandard with more synthetic and still costing everyone more. Forget about a niche fragrances. The Zino Davidoff Group was founded in 1980 by Ukrainian-Jewish immigrant Zino Davidoff (born Sussele-Meier Davidoff), [11] [12] who lived in Switzerland. [13] The New Generation of Davidoff

In 1992, the "Special" cigar series was released, with the format "Special R" as the first product. In 1994, the 87-year-old Zino Davidoff died in Geneva, Switzerland.

The brand name Davidoff originates from the surname of its Switzerland-Jewish-born founder, Zino Davidoff (born Sussele-Meier Davidoff; 1906, Novhorod-Siverskyi – 1994, Geneva), [4] who ran a tobacco specialist shop in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1926 to 1994. [5] He was known as the "King of Cigars". [6] History [ edit ] Dominican-made AmbassadriceImperial Brands has owned the Davidoff cigarette brand name since purchasing it in 2006. [1] See also [ edit ] In 1993, the advertising campaign was updated, and Davidoffintroducedthe slogan " The Fragrance Of Desire." The sensuality and sexuality of the fragrance wereconfirmed by the bare-chested muscular Eric Etebari, to the classic soul song "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" performed by James Brown. In the video, not only the desert appears but also the ocean - maybea hint atthe Cool Water fragrance that would be launched soon?
