That's the thing with Rivers, the thing that prevented his band from ever truly reaching adulthood. Even if there's a lot of undertones and blunt honesty on display here, the man has never constructed a genuinely well-written lyric in his life (pop culture references and self-loathing doesn't make you a genius). Instead, he just makes either the bluntest of statements, or just awkward ramblings of some lamer who never went to the big parties. Then he relies on his songcraft to get it across, and on the Blue Album it works perfectly. Thanks to an excellent channeling of their influences and Ric Ocasek of The Cars behind the boards, Weezer never put together a stronger, more consistent round of songs than this (with the possible exception of Pinkerton), and their youthful enthusiasm really drives the aesthetics home. One gets the sense that they don't even know they're on a major label yet. To me, both of the mofi pressings sound the same, which makes sense because they both use the same stampers. In comparison to any other pressing I own, both of the mofi pressings are noticeably more quiet. It blows the 2002 EU pressing and the 2016 DMM pressing out of the water. The 2002 Canadian pressing and original Time Bomb pressing can hold their own, although there is a noticeable difference between them due to the remastering. I've heard a lot of concern regarding the the quality of coloured vinyl. From what I've read, IN THEORY the chemical colouring used in the vinyl can cause the vinyl to degrade over time. This pressing has not been out nearly long enough to notice any sort of degrading in sound quality. Additionally, red and blue vinyl are supposed to have less degrading than some of the other colours being pressed. Furthermore, Mobile Fidelity isn't known for messing around and I don't believe they would put this on coloured vinyl if it would affect the sound quality in any sort of noticeable way. Flaherty, Mike (October 14, 1994). "Weezer". Entertainment Weekly. No.244 . Retrieved October 27, 2011. Weezer formed in Los Angeles in 1992, and initially struggled to engage audiences, who were more interested in grunge. In November, they recorded a demo, The Kitchen Tape, which brought them to the attention of DGC owner Geffen Records. Weezer selected Ocasek to produce because of his work with the Cars. Most of the album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City between August and September 1993. The group treated the guitars and bass as a single, 10-string instrument, playing in unison. Guitarist Jason Cropper was fired during recording, as the band felt he was threatening their chemistry; he was replaced by Brian Bell.
