About this deal

Character Title: Dreadnought is named after the hero that gives Danny her powers, whose role Danny takes on. The datasheets using AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM keyword can be found in the following Factions: Imperium: Adepta Sororitas, Agents of the Imperium, Imperial Knights, Inquisition. Massie tells common history while revealing elusive historical anecdotes. He begins by explaining Britain's Imperial Saxe-Coburg Family relation to the majority of Europe crowned heads (Victoria was the mother, grand mother, or aunt for almost every 19th century European king, queen, prince and princess). It is interesting to note that WW 1's hostilities did not really take hold until after Victoria's death in 1901. There's a good deal more, obviously, not least of which is the discussion of naval planning, technology, logistics, etc. GPS Evidence: Calamity and Danny manage to figure out where one of Utopia's henchmen lives from a single napkin he used. Justified because they enroll the help of a literal wizard (Sarah's friend Charlie) to do it.

What You Are in the Dark: Danny specifically calls this out as an old and tired cliché, but she gets a few moments like this, where nobody could pin a death on her and she has to make the hard choice. Author Diane Carey made extensive use of the Star Fleet Technical Manual when writing this novel. Besides the use of the titular three- nacelled Dreadnought-type ship, the organization of the Federation and Starfleet infrastructure revealed to Piper by the library computer is identical to the layout written by Franz Joseph in that manual. She also mentions several Federation starships and starship classes from that work, such as the Saladin-class of destroyer. Even major characters Piper, "Scanner" Sandage, Vaughan Rittenhouse, Sukaru Tutakai, and Sarda were named for Ptolemy-class transport/ tugs USS Piper, USS Sandage, USS Rittenhouse, and the Constitution-variant subclass vessels USS Tutakai and (probably) USS Sardar. Carey also misspells Potemkin as Potempkin, as Franz Joseph did in the earlier manual. The good news is that “Dreadnought” is very possibly one of the top five history books I have read so far, and I have read quite a few of them by now. Massie manages to visualize all the main characters of the period and make them human. Furthermore, he weaves a mesmerizing slideshow of events, that first very slowly, but then with more and more momentum leads to one of humanity's greatest calamities. The end result is stunning. from "The King's Jest," Rudyard Kipling, 1890. In a sense DREADNOUGHT was a book waiting to be written. When Rudyard Kipling, under the semi-pseudonym "Yussuf," first published "The King's Jest" in 1890, he celebrated Great Britain's imperial might on land -- the "Great Game" of the Kyber Pass and Central Asia. Yet, for all the glory, Kipling may have helped distract the British populace from the vast naval buildup taking place, and the fact that Imperial Germany, on the move since 1871, was about to surpass Great Britain in raw production of coal and steel, but soon in naval weight and might and cutting-edge technology. Even today, we more casual students of World War I think of the appalling trenches of Flanders and Northern France, yet, horrible as they were, over-reliance on themes and tropes of land war often distract us amateurs to the crucial naval battles of the "Great War." a b Ceillie, Simkiss (February 24, 2018). "Ownvoices trans YA novel Dreadnought optioned for film". Culturess. Coming-Out Story: Danny starts the first book as a closeted, pre-transition transgender female and ends with her publicly coming out as transgender and lesbian. Several of the major story beats are about her gender and superhero identities being outed; see Forced Out of the Closet below. The authors have created a sort of anti-Book of Virtues in this encyclopedic compendium of the ways and means of power.

Finally, after Danny has been framed for murder and arrested, the "superhero community" (but probably mostly Aloe) rally to post her bail. Massie does an excellent job of describing the English culture vs the German culture and how fiercely nationalistic both countries were, although Germany seems to have taken their identity to extreme heights, which helps explain the Kaiser's ambitions to conquer and colonialize third world nations. The story is told from the point of view of a young Ms. Piper, a cadet at Starfleet Academy, undergoing her Kobayashi Maru examination. Upon graduation, she is requested by James T. Kirk for posting as a lieutenant to the USS Enterprise. Also posted on board, a couple of weeks prior, is a former friend of hers: a Vulcan named Sarda. The USS Star Empire, the prototype of the new dreadnought starships, is stolen by a group of rogue officers lead by Commander Paul Burch, former assistant to Admiral Rittenhouse, who had commissioned the dreadnought and had her built in secret. Kirk requested Lieutenant Piper to be assigned to the Enterprise, as they had already received a communique from the terrorists detailing a time and location for a meeting, and that a further message would require Piper's biocode to open. Lieutenant Piper is unaware of how she fits into any of this. The second novel features an inversion, where a transphobe's sense of being "normal" is invalidated instead. Greywych (an Alpha Bitch modelled after " Trans Exclusive Radical Feminists" in the first novel, and an outright antagonist in the second) casts a spell to kill off "men"; by her definition, anyone with a Y chromosome. It turns out that she's (possibly) a cis woman with a Y chromosome and androgen insensitivity , meaning she almost dies as well- she insists that it was just because the spell was so powerful it was Cast from Hit Points, but the truth is left for the reader to decide and she's been shown to be very self-delusional. England, was never going to accept any power threatening its vital sea routes. The Homeland could not survive the loss of food raw materials, or employment tied to its world-wide interests. For England this was an existential fact. Germany had no comparable exposure. In 1975, Robert Massie and his then-wife Suzanne chronicled their experiences as the parents of a hemophiliac child and the significant differences between the American and French healthcare systems in their jointly written book, Journey.

Star Empire's unique third nacelle was mounted to its primary, not engineering, hull – above the saucer's interconnecting dorsal. The extra nacelle allowed the vessel to go twice as fast as Enterprise but only for a limited period of time. Animesque: Doc Impossible appears to be fond of using Anime-style characters in the UI for her hypertech devices.

Dark and Troubled Past: Sarah's powers are hereditary, thanks to the super-serum her grandfather was injected with, but they come with about a 50% chance of dying from leukemia within ten years of exposure. Two of Sarah's brothers didn't make it, and Sarah herself had leukemia as a child, although the cancer now seems to be in remission. The shooting model is INFANTRY (excluding CENTURION models) and its unit Remained Stationary in your previous Movement phase. Assault weapons fire so rapidly or indiscriminately that they can be shot from the hip as warriors dash forwards into combat.

When you select a PSYKER unit to manifest psychic powers, you select one psychic power that unit knows and attempt to manifest it. With the exception of Smite, you cannot attempt to manifest the same psychic power more than once in the same battle round, even with different PSYKER units. The same PSYKER unit cannot attempt to manifest Smite more than once during the same battle round. Dreadnought is history in the grand manner, as most people prefer it: how people shaped, or were shaped by, events.” — Time The book is a collection of small biographies, centering on the English and German royalty, with the prime ministers, chancelors and ministers as well. While reading, it is almost you take part in the conversations in cigar smoke filled chambers, nipping champagne with the Kaiser and the Kings. Are You Sure You Want to Do That?: The Artificer states very clearly that for two teenagers to go after a supervillain that killed Dreadnought seems like an incredibly bad idea. The dreadnought was triple-shielded, and two or three times larger than Enterprise. This made it about 1.5 million tons lighter than the later Galaxy-class. Its armament included six photon torpedo banks, five phaser banks of two emitters each, and a number of undisclosed cutting-edge weapons systems. Heavy weapons are amongst the biggest guns on the battlefield, but they require bracing to fire at full effect and are unwieldy to bring to bear at close quarters.
