About this deal

If we are to befriend the Holy Spirit in a more meaningful way, we must become dependent upon Him – I mean desperately dependent upon Him. Do you wonder what you should do or how to solve your problems? The Spirit of wisdom has come to help you. He will lead you and show you what is best for you. In Lesson 4 you will study about how He will do it. The Holy Spirit enables us to pursue godliness. Here are the different ways that this divine person of infinite majesty ministers to us. If you are a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the best friend you will ever have on this earth is the Holy Spirit. Jesus said,

Do you sometimes feel that no one understands you or cares about your problems? God does! He knows just what you need. He loves you so much that He has sent His Holy Spirit to be your special Friend and Helper. In this course you will learn about how the Holy Spirit came, what He did for the early Christians, and what He will do for you. With the Holy Spirit as your Friend, you never need to feel lonesome or helpless again. HE WILL HELP YOU Finally God sent His Son Jesus Christ to live among people and show them what God is really like. In Jesus’ teachings you learn about the wonderful love of God for all mankind. In Jesus’ life, you see this love in action. In His death and resurrection for you, you see the proof of God’s love.

Holy Spirit, My best Friend

Ephesians 1:16-19. I . . . ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know him. I ask that your minds may be open to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, and how great is his power at work in us who believe. The Spirit of Christ

Pray believing that your best Friend surely listens to you. Wen we pray whole-heartedly, He takes your prayer seriously. Our determination in prayer can activate the power of the Holy Spirit. Such prayer is so powerful it can bind evil spirits and diseases, releasing miraculous power. The principle in praying is if we believe half-heartedly, there will be no answer! Total trust is absolute if we are to see the manifestation of God's power. And I will pray the Father; and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you (Jn. 14:16–17). But what happened 2,000 years ago may seem far away. We get taken up with the problems of today—hunger, violence, crime, wars—and wonder if God really cares. We need to meet Him personally and find out for ourselves that He does love us. Recently some seminary students received the Holy Spirit. Bible truths suddenly “came alive” for them. Their teachers were amazed at their new understanding of spiritual things. The Spirit of truth had come. The Spirit of WisdomMuch of what we do in life and in ministry requires no spiritual power. Much of what we start is founded upon the natural. So if we don’t need the Holy Spirit to start it, we don’t need the Holy Spirit to sustain it; and that’s not a good thing. I don’t imagine that my response was entirely appropriate, but I guess I would, in this case, plead “Righteous Indignation”. I was forward when I asked, “And why on earth do you think the people shouldn’t hear about the Holy Spirit until they’re at the ‘next level’?” When I first began to understand years ago that the Holy Spirit actually enjoyed being with me and was happy to see me, everything changed. My conversation with Him used to be filled with feelings of condemnation. As I began to understand the truth of what it means to live by faith in God’s forgiveness and righteousness, I was able to boldly approach the throne of grace. The Bible says, “The righteous are bold as a lion” (Prov. 28:1b), but until you settle in your heart that the blood of Jesus is enough to cleanse you from all unrighteousness, you won’t be able to have that boldness. You won’t be able to engage in your relationship with the Holy Spirit at that level of delight and joy because you’ll always be wondering if everything is OK between you. He opens your understanding to the gospel. Who brought Lydia to an understanding of the gospel? The Holy Spirit. Think about a time where you’ve witnessed people come to Jesus. Who did that? Was it a choir? A preacher? No. The Holy Spirit opened their hearts so they could understand the gospel. Without the Holy Spirit, people can’t understand spiritual things: “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14).
