READ NEXT: Best 4K Blu-ray player: The best Ultra HD Blu-ray players you can buy in 2017 Samsung UBD-M9500 review: What you need to know Thank you for taking the time to read our SAMSUNG UBD-M9000 Smart 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player with 4K Ultra HD Upscaling review from the Blu-Ray Players category. If there’s any products that we have not yet reviewed please leave us a comment and we will do our best to get a review added. About Currys I compared the M9500’s pictures to those of the K8500 and there doesn’t appear to be a major step-up in image quality with UHD discs. Thankfully, there are enough feature upgrades elsewhere to justify the higher price. The Samsung UBDM9000 4K UHD Blu-ray player delivers incredible true-to-life 4K resolution images – at a fraction of the cost I would have expected to pay for the quality. I’ve been using a Blu-ray player since they first came out and was, initially, sceptical about how much better 4K & UHD would make the picture. Any scepticism was soon gone, however, once I’d set up, settled down and pressed the play button! Enjoy revolutionary picture quality the way the director intended it. With 4 times higher the resolution than Full HD, the UBD-M9000 delivers crystal clear and detailed images in UHD, especially on big screens, bringing your movies to life.

The M9500 also lets you watch content taken on Gear 360 or YouTube 360 videos and control them with the player’s remote. You need to convert Gear 360 content on a Galaxy smartphone or PC first, and watch them via the USB port. The UBD-M9500 also renders regular Blu-ray discs with a sure hand, making the detailed landscapes in The Martian look remarkably sharp and focused. Here I could see a slight improvement over last year’s model – the M9500’s images looked slightly sharper and more composed. It also streams hi-definition video content like a champ, offering crisp, solid pictures with no buffering problems over Wi-Fi. The Samsung UBDM9000 4k player comes full of great smart apps built-in (Netflix, YouTube, catch up TV and many more besides) so there is no need for endlessly changing between TV and 4k player to get to your smart apps. All the apps are there in one place, accessible through the Tizen operating system, which displays them as tiles at the bottom of the screen. However, one thing it won’t do is play 3D Blu-ray discs, which may reflect its dwindling popularity but won’t impress those with a large collection of 3D movies. It doesn’t play SACD or DVD-Audio discs either, both of which are supported by the Sony UBP-X800.But if you prize convenience over reliability then there’s built-in Wi-Fi with support for 801.11ac. The side-mounted USB port allows you to play music, video and picture files. Samsung UBD-M9500 – Features See the most realistic range of stunning shades burst from the screen without compromising on the detail, breathing new life into every scene. The UBD-M9000 offers twice the colour range and 64x greater detail colour expression than conventional Blu-ray players, surpassing the current Digital Cinema Standard. Enjoy realistic picture quality like never before.

Sorry if I have some basic queries but like I say, it's been a long time since I looked at this stuff (early 2000's ?) & it's moved on by miles ! If you leave the M9500 in its default settings it will automatically set its output to match the native resolution of your display. So if your TV has a native resolution of 4K, the player will upscale all lower resolution content to match that resolution. We tested the upscaling of the M9500 with high definition content (both disc and steaming) as well as standard definition content from DVD and the player proved to be a very capable performer. Samsung's scaling has always been excellent and the M9500 handled high definition content extremely well, delivering images that were detailed and free of unwanted artefacts, whilst it also upscaled DVDs very effectively. Whilst its debatable that someone investing in an Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player will be watching many DVDs, the good news is that the M9500 had no problems playing both PAL and NTSC DVDs. The player had very effective deinterlacing and cadence detection, with the interlaced signals being handle well regardless of whether it was film or video based or even a mixture of the two. The motion produced from the test DVDs we used was also very good and free of unwanted judder or other issues. As mentioned in the section on 4K upscaling, the player was also able to take this deinterlaced standard definition signal and upscale it with genuine skill, delivering images that were free of unwanted artefacts and surprisingly watchable when you consider the resolution of the source.Another significant omission is Dolby Vision, the advanced form of HDR, which uses dynamic metadata to optimise picture quality frame by frame. Samsung says there’s no demand for it, and while that may be the case at present, its absence could be a deal breaker for some as content increases – particularly as LG’s UP970 and the Oppo UDP-203 both support it. One of my main criticisms of the UBD-K8500 was its lightweight build quality, which compared unfavourably with Panasonic’s more robust players. The UBD-M9500 is slightly improved, but the plastic casing still has the air of a budget player – at this price I’d expect something a little more luxurious. Similarly, you don’t need to select the ‘Bitstream (Unprocessed)’ audio setting to make the M9500 output Dolby Atmos or DTS:X – it analyses your audio system and selects the correct mode automatically. Samsung UBD-M9500 – Performance Audio-wise, the digital-only output means sound quality is determined by the quality of your system, but streaming Bluetooth through the player from a Samsung Galaxy phone proved a novel and convenient feature. A Now Playing screen appears when the music plays, showing the relevant metadata and an animated EQ meter.
