About this deal

Lively’s response to the fact that more and more seniors are getting in on the mobile movement, the Jitterbug Smart3 features larger text and icons and is the company’s biggest smartphone. The phone comes with everything users know and love from the Jitterbug name, including the preloaded Urgent Response feature, as well as an easy-to-use menu layout. And did we mention that the Jitterbug Smart3 also includes mobile internet access from anywhere at any time? A review of a Jitterbug phone wouldn't be complete without a mention of its services. The main one I've already touched on is 5Star Urgent Response, which connects you to a 24/7 operator who can identify your location and request help from emergency services. That's included for free with the phone. These don’t recall a landline connected base station to work, as they each have mobile phone electronics that connect via the AT&T network. When the 5Star button is pressed, it uses both GPS and Wi-Fi (if near a Wi-Fi network) to provide location to the emergency response agent. That said, the Flip cannot connect to Wi-Fi otherwise, but Verizon has excellent coverage across the US.

The camera is surprisingly decent, considering it's only a 2-megapixel sensor. It takes clear, reasonably detailed pictures in well-lit environments, though in lower light settings images become muddy. Digital zoom is available in a separate Magnifier app, and allows for 5x zoom. So, Lively (Great Call) is offering multiple different form factors, that all call the same responder call center, where the responders can help in various ways including calling 911.See more about this emergency responder service in our discussion of Mobile Medical Alerts. The Jitterbug Flip2 is the latest version of this Jitterbug Flip phone which has been available for a number of years, and over the years a number of explorers have commented positively on prior versions (see discussions attached to the Jitterbug listing in our database). Its Mobile GPS Medical Alert System is specifically designed to bring assistance to those away from their home. And should the worst happen, it can locate its exact geographic location accurately using either WIFI signal or GPS satellite system.

Another benefit of creating Alexa Routines is because Lively didn’t provide a way to verbally respond to a text, although you could always use this command upon receiving a text: One of the greatest motivations to get off the flip phone is the horrible steps required to send a text message. For example, you have to tap the number “2” key THREE TIMES to send the letter “C” !! And, family members seem to love sending texts to their elderly parents! To make or receive a call you simply flip open the phone, and you are ready to talk or dial, it’s very straightforward and somewhat reminiscent of a phone from the ‘feature phone’ era rather than a modern smartphone. One unique feature of this design is that LifeStation has crafted an Alexa skill, enabling Alexa to tell you where the pendant wearer is if asked.

If you are willing to create a couple of Alexa Routines, you can make the command much simpler per my attached samples using “custom actions” in Alexa Routines. You will then be able to say: What’s best about this solution is the very high reputation of the service that the company is known, and how they channel the alert to emergency services, neighbours or family members as appropriate. Alexa, send a text to Frankie” or “Alexa, message Frankie” or any command you think they would be suitable! The Flip has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor under the hood, the same chipset you'll find in a smartphone like the Jitterbug Smart . There isn't much you can do beyond making calls, send texts, and taking pictures, and the Flip has more than enough power to perform all of these actions smoothly. As those screen sizes and resolutions suggest, these displays aren’t for reading documents or maps, they’re for large and easy to read options, such as keying in a phone number or reading the time. Camera: Basic models start at 2 megapixels, which is fine for snapshots. High-end models offer 12-megapixel cameras and all manner of photographic enhancements. The Flip is actually based on the same hardware as the Alcatel Go Flip on Sprint and T-Mobile; we like Jitterbug's version better because we don't care for the Go Flip's software. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor under the hood, which is a basic, older smartphone chip. There isn't much you can do beyond making calls, sending texts, and taking pictures, and the Flip has more than enough power to perform all of these actions smoothly.

The most noteworthy difference between the two phones is battery life. The Smart3 has a battery capacity of 3500 milliampere hours while the Smart4 has 5000 milliampere hours. This translates to the Smart4 having a battery that lasts roughly fifty percent longer, which was noticeable in our tests. Brain Games: Studies have shown that puzzle-based activities, also known as brain games, can help refine thinking skills that tend to decline with age, skills such as decision making and short-term memory. My Jitterbug Flip2 had several different types of these games. My personal favorite was called Face Facts, a game in which I had to memorize names and associate them with images of faces. Touchscreen: These phones don’t necessarily have to be cluttered with dozens of apps. Many popular jitterbug phones may not have buttons, but the display offers terrific clarity and a simple list of functions in large, plain font that’s still easy to read. I have been an advocate of converting loved ones from flip phones to smart phones for many years with the goal of making their lives easier. It’s important to spend time examining your options. If it’s not clear what costs are involved, consult the manufacturer or carrier. If you’re not getting the help you need, move on until you get the right answers. Tips

The similarities between this and the Jitterbug Smart 2 are obvious and expected, but it also has some of the same limitations in respect of the performance of the technology. Remember, despite the Smart4’s simplified design, it’s a fully featured Android phone. This means that it can use any app available on the Google Play Store, including Facebook, Google Maps, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Gmail, among others. Using the Jitterbug Smart4 to watch TheSeniorList's YouTube channel. Where this is especially true is the mobile phone frequencies it handles, as it doesn’t support 4G LTE, a technology offers inherently more accurate positional information based on cell communication. These professionals will conduct an initial screening and help the user create a “Care Plan” encompassing health, financial planning, and personal care. Nurse On-Call
