Rooney claims the two men had a roughly 10-year sexual relationship after that first incident, until Rooney, who is married to a woman, broke off the relationship and confessed the affair to his wife. For as long as she can remember, Grace Campbell has been told that she doesn’t suit her name. But being graceful is no fun anyway. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - Single". I was a little disappointed that certain embarrassing events (toilet mishap, ProWang side-effects) that occurred earlier in the book didn't resurface at the end. I figured we were headed for a Seinfeldian climax in which George pulls a golf ball out of the whale, but not so. Instead, what happened was completely unexpected and brings the book to an abrupt, unresolved end. I had no choice to to immediately start reading Rancid Pansies. Well played, Hamilton-Paterson/Europa. Once again Gerald Samper is earning his daily bread by ghostwriting autobiographies of sports celebrities. He may earn his daily bread this way, but he would never do anything so pedestrian as to actually eat plain bread. He makes his life enjoyable by concocting (his definition of) gourmet recipes and singing made-up Italian opera arias. His life is made more enjoyable by these activities, but those activities frequently make life less enjoyable for those in his near vicinity. It’s an interesting career trajectory; you have to admit. Your debut album is a charming indie-folk hybrid. Album two is a little bit pop-psychedelic. Number three – the breakthrough – is the Hollies go grunge, which leads us neatly to album four. Amazing Disgrace is the angry divorce record. The Church Militant video has roiled Peterson’s hyper-masculine conservative community. Anthony Dream Johnson, the organizer of a series of manosphere conventions where Peterson has appeared and the self-proclaimed “First President of the Manosphere,” wrote in a June 22 newsletter that many manosphere members were “outraged” and “going through the beginning stages of grief.” It’s that ache which gives Amazing Disgrace its (serrated) edge. Even tunes which sound quite happy most certainly aren’t. The lead single “Please Return It”, in spite of its poptastic tune, has an undertone of genuine angst, “There’s an upside” goes the coda. “There has to be an upside.” Well, for the Posies, there wasn’t. The single, along with the album didn’t get close to the lofty heights of the album previous to it, although it fared better in the UK and Europe and has since become their biggest selling record. However, in 1996, it clogged up the remaindered sections of record stores from sea to shining sea.

The Posies’ final Geffen full-length, remastered from original tapes.

Samper does make some progress though in his goal of eventually ghostwriting for serious musicians. Meanwhile, his current effort is a ghostwritten autobiography of a one-armed, grandmother, solo around-the-world sailor. His current client is Millie Cleat, a senior sailor who crosses the globe and is adored worldwide. She’s quite dodgy and not above ‘retelling’ tales of her adventures so that she’s cast in a heroic light. Having only one arm has not hampered her vaunting ambitions. She remembers, aged seven, the arrival of Russia’s Vladimir Putin (‘seriously tiny’) during a state visit, meeting Boris Johnson (‘grubby, his hair was messy’) during VIP access at a Miley Cyrus concert and was nine when people began congregating outside their home, holding placards with ‘Alastair Campbell = War Criminal’ scrawled across them.

Not taking the job quite seriously, Gerald teams up with British oceanographers and soon learn that our beloved Millie is not quite the heroine she claims. A wee bit of collateral damage occurred while taking a shortcut between vessels carrying trawls with sensitive measuring equipment – now we shall never know if the Teutonic plates southwest of Gran Canary will collide and cause a tsunami which will destroy most of southern Europe. Thank you, Millie. Adam and Eve, the world’s first householders, had their lease on Eden rudely foreclosed and were obliged to relocate to one of Mesopotamia’s less fashionable parts, of which – then as now – there was no shortage. Eve later remarked that aside from the occasional snake Eden hadn’t been a bad place to live. ‘The fruit was fabulous. Basically, though, just too many trees. We weren’t that sorry to leave, actually. If you wanted any sort of social life, well, forget it, the place was dead. But dead. We couldn’t throw even the smallest dinner party for a few friends because we simply didn’t have any. There was literally no one else to invite apart from some old gardener with no conversation who turned nasty at the end.’ By 1987, the band's controversial name was starting to hinder them, it caused some of the gigs on their tour with Andy McCoy's band to be cancelled. They were also booked to play Reading Festival, on the understanding that they would change their name. Thus they changed it to the Quireboys and have kept the name ever since. It was announced in October 2023 that Spike and the remaining original members of The Quireboys will Headline the Friday Night Party at the Stonedead Festival in August 2024. Guitarist Luke Morley from Thunder will play with them in place of Guy Bailey.
