About this deal

At your interview, the panel will ask you about your previous experiences and your interests and hobbies and they will also want to discuss your portfolio and your response to the tasks (below). You will be introduced to the academic and intellectual skills that you will need for study and professional development. Modules you will undertake during year 1 include but are not limited to: In seminars, workshops, practical demonstrations, field trips and classes, you will be introduced to the core craft and practical skills required in a range of theatre, events and performance-related industries.

Along with all other students in the programme, Design Realisation students take classes in a broad range of core subjects. These include: Theatre History, Period Style, Contemporary Theatre, Health & Safety and Stagecraft & Production Process. Classes are usually project based and wherever possible have a hands-on, practical approach. I have designed and realised over 100 theatre productions and many themed events. Also I have worked extensively as an assistant and specialist maker. Initially I worked on a freelance basis for 6 years. Recently I completed 10 year residency as scenic designer/ master carpenter for The Italia Conti Academy. I am currently re-launching myself as a freelancer for hire. The bulk of my experience is design for plays and musicals both naturalistic and abstract, I have a great eye for naturalistic/period detail. I also enjoy the freedom of an 'out there' concept. Overall I think I am a positive person who can adapt to any situation or personality. I'm always keen to do a good job and learn more. I am currently London based, but often travel thoughout the UK when the opportunity arrises. Through the links the course has established with other industries, such as festivals, events and theme parks, students have been able to broaden their scope of skills and expertise by working on a diverse range of projects.

Following your workshop training, you’ll then become more familiar with the theatre environment, learning basic skills in access equipment, rigging and flying systems. You’ll also gain greater insight into the roles and duties of relevant team members and become involved in the load-in and fit-up of productions here at the College. A: From academic year 2021/22 onwards, all EU students commencing study in Scotland will pay fees at the International rate. He added: "We've got every type of landscape or scenery that you could want within a short distance. We've got the labour and skills to cope with demand and it's growing year on year and it all seems to be going in the right way.

Cardiff is probably one of the best places for this industry,’ said Jake, who moved from Luton to study here. ‘There are so many different companies here, whether you want to go into film and TV or theatre. Cardiff is a good place to be a student, it’s a really lively, vibrant city. People are very friendly as well.’ From the second year onwards, you will have the opportunity to arrange placements and there are a wide range of professional companies that work with Central, allowing access to many performance styles. Students regularly undertake placements at the Royal Opera House and All Scene All Props. Industry Links

Behind the Scenes

Coming straight from his A Levels, Will Houghton has always been interested in design and construction. He found the fact that this was a brand new course exciting because, as one of the first students, he could help to shape it. Primary and secondary options can be articulated in a number of ways. For example, Construction with CAD, or Prop making with Paint Techniques. So far the course has been exactly the way I would have made it. If I had my ideal course it would be like what we’re doing now,’ said Will.
