What if she chose to leave? What if she didn’t? In turn, the bombastic lunacy of “Dead Simple” can be seen as a manifestation of the character’s worst case scenario free-floating anxieties. For fans of James’ work — and there are many, all of whom apparently like things that are Grade A bonkers — these episodes of “Grace” will be the fulfillment of a long-awaited adaptation. Finally, more than two decades since the first introduction of Roy Grace, readers can see a series about the beloved character. For the rest of us, it remains a big what if: What if this character, with this trauma, could be placed in a story that was more deftly told? That would be something worth watching. Well written, unpredictable with a plot that kept you guessing on a ride that you didn’t want to get off. You can tell the level of detail and precision in the crime aspect of the book being well researched give it an authenticity that felt real. I’m not going to compare this book to any other because this novel deserves its own praise however I will say that this author just earned in a spot on my top ten suspense author list. This book absolutely gets my recommendation. Peter James has written 17 Roy Grace books so far – and they all have the word ‘dead’ in the title. He doesn’t play things by the book and isn’t afraid of pushing boundaries – something that often gets him into trouble. Screenwriter Russell Lewis tell us: “What attracted me to Peter James’ seaside noir was their darkness, and the chilly, unsentimental realism of his meticulously researched Police procedure.”
