I'm more inclined to be focused on playing than programming my hardware. After this experience, revisiting a digital DAW doesn't look as half as bad. I also posess the RC-500 and altough i'm happy enough with it to keep it, it's also one step above the upper margin of firmware complexity in wich I'm willing to engage while looping with hardware. I also hope that BOSS adresses the above mentioned issues of the RC 600 on the RC 500, wich are similar, if not the same. Unlike the other loop station pedals in this guide, the RC-10R really does focus heavily on the rhythm aspects instead of the looping aspects. BOSS RC-10R vs RC-30The Boss RC 600, just like the RC 505 MK2, cannot be ran off batteries. They require a power supply to operate. You want your looper pedal to last you a long time, so choose one that you’re not going to outgrow. The LCD display includes four dedicated knobs, which should make it easier to control the software side of things. Some hardware controls found on the RC-300 have been removed in the RC-600 and moved into the software side. So having an easy interface is important if you want to be able to dig into personalizing your pedalboard or setting up effects and signal routing. The RC 600 runs rings around the 505 MK2 when it comes to sound bankage. With the RC 505 MK2 you get 10 assignable buttons with 2 possible functions. Whereas with the RC 600, you get 9 foot switches, each of which have 3 possible functions. So that makes it a whopping 7 sounds up on the 505 MK2!

The RC-3 isn’t quite dated, but it feels that way when you compare it against the RC-5’s RGB LED screen.Sound quality has also taken a step up with the RC 600. Instead of the okay 16bit audio you got with the RC 300, the RC 600 now gives you a fantastic 32bit sound! With the RC 600 you’ll less likely have to buy additional control pedals – it gives you SO many more options! The 9 foot switches each come with 3 banks, so that’s 27 options you have to play with before even thinking of including external pedals.

The downside of the RC-5 is that it still only uses one footswitch. While you can connect external footswitches, that’s an extra cost that could go towards a bigger unit. The RC-500 basically takes the brains of the RC-5 and puts it in a bigger enclosure to give you far better control over your loops and rhythms.To turn it on, press MENU, press knob 1 to select INPUT, then use knobs 3 and 4 to switch between Line and Inst. In addition to this you can also route your audio however you wish, thanks to three stereo outputs, a USB port for integrating with your favourite software, and much more besides.
