About this deal

You don't really want a 7200rpm or faster drive as they'll generate more heat and be louder. 5400 or 5900'ish is more than fast enough, go for one with as much cache as possible, which uses as little power as possible and has the longest warranty at the cheapest price. What a full format will do (that may be helpful) is to map out any marginal sectors; this is done by the disk controller firmware and so is a level below the file system and hence will persist when reformatted. I wasn't aware that old humax's use ext3 - my 9200 certainly doesn't. But it doesn't matter - the box itself should offer the option to format the disk. I have the 9150T with original 160GB hard drive. Owned the device for a number of years now and it still suits my needs, however I am starting to run out of disk space and am interested in replacing the hard drive with a larger one.

The twin tuners mean that you can record different programmes at the same time and overlapping programmes don’t present a problem – it just works. A popular boast of Sky users, you can also opt to series programmes as well as record broken programmes, i.e., those that have the news in the middle. Icons identify programmes on which these, and other, options are available and when setting a recording you are given the choice to series link if you can. The increasing complexity of the UK's broadcast infrastructure and requirement to process a substantially higher volume of information has put the PVRs under pressure and significant performance issues became particularly apparent through the digital switchover. Thanks for replying. I found a thread on DS about the 9300 which has the same problem but there was an interesting post which claimed that it was noted that the cooling fan was not operating and after replacing the fan it fixed the problem: Thanks again, but I am reluctant to try all the suggestions as I am 75, and 'though I consider myself computer literate, I forsee getting into a helluva mess!Go into the settings and make sure the unit is set to auto update so you don't miss the next over the air software patch. The installation process isquite straightforward but ratherslow. The PVR searches out available stations before allowing you to delete those that hold no interest -- and you'll probably find there's quite a few of those on Freeview. If I find a way to connect it up to a PC and do a full format (I only have a 'family' laptop myself and don't want to start messing with that), is there any particular type of format that's required? Under the hood, essentially, you’ll find twin Freeview tuners and 160GB of hard disk drive and this is where the real contest is fought. It is not the biggest of drives, but for those looking to record on an ad hoc basis this is more than adequate, giving you about 100 hours of television recording. The obvious one is movement of the aerial in the wind if it is on the roof. If it is in a loft then have you moved stuff around in the loft or put more stuff up there?

I live in N.Wales which is undergoing transmission problems, but this has been occuring for days now. What region are you in? If it's a post-DSO region such as Granada, then the specially arranged update (alternating with the 9300 update) is being broadcast on MuxB, which post-DSO regions no longer carry. If this is your situation you will have to wait until the update is able to be scheduled with DTG on their engineering channel on Mux1, which is carried in all regions. This might be some time, as it looks like there are no slots left for December. Humax is very aware that, for several months, some customers have been experiencing a slowdown in operation and usability issues with our PVR models.MoneySavingExpert.com is part of the MoneySuperMarket Group, but is entirely editorially independent. Its stance of putting consumers first is protected and enshrined in the legally-binding MSE Editorial Code. Naturally, you can view your recordings on time delay, perhaps to skip over the ads or finish the washing up. Unusually, the PVR-9150T sports an ad-skip button that jumps forward in your recordings at the touch of a button. The leap is adjustable between 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds. There's also a bookmarking feature, enabling you to rejoin a recording you failed to finish in a previous sitting. You can also PiP a second source, to keep an eye on a channel you're waiting to view. Also based on experience, having originally replaced the hard disk in my 9200T with a normal (non-CE) Seagate (250GB) HDD - it is still going strong and has never presented any problems.
