The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case! The beginning and ending of this book were strong. I felt really intrigued by the book at the beginning, and couldn’t wait to see what happened. Then it became too much of a slow burn for me and I found myself losing interest. While I love some great foreshadowing, Hannah mentioned her past too frequently without giving enough detail to keep me fully engaged. This slow burn thriller has everything I love in a psychological suspense novel: dual timelines, multiple POVs, and sinister characters. It’s terrifying to think that this dark and gritty storyline is happening in our world every day, and the author does a stellar job of conveying the horrific conditions in the brothel. Although I guessed what I thought was the main twist, I should have realized that the talented Ms. Hayes had one last surprise up her sleeve with a real OMG of an epilogue! This is a parent’s worst nightmare - your daughter comes home from a holiday abroad, head over heels in love and engaged to a man who’s all wrong for her. Genres covered in this book include Women's Psychological Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Fiction, Crime Fiction and Psychological Thriller amongst others. I enjoyed the multiple POVs & different timelines. The characters were well developed with depth, mystery, secretive, and very creatively built. The author’s writing style was complex, multifaceted, twisty, suspenseful, thought provoking, and kept me engaged the entire story. The author does a brilliant job at building and developing the characters, developing the plots is various twists, while some are predictable, the ending I did not see coming and it was a fantastic ending!
