The Midnight Gang is a children's book written by David Walliams and illustrated by Tony Ross. It was released by HarperCollins on November 3, 2016. The story follows a boy called Thomas "Tom" Charper going to a cruel hospital and joining a "midnight gang" consisting of the facility's other children. Very well written and wonderfully narrated by the author. I laughed my guts out a lot through out the book. First of all, if you love Roald Dahl, you NEED this book in your life. But this book was over and above what I had expected it to be. I went into it thinking that this was going to be a nice middle grader-ish story that i can enjoy. But, the beautiful things that David Walliams teaches you through the course of this book is the best! I loved all the little children and by the end of the book I started to fall in love with them and wished them all the best in their lives (just like how you feel after reading a series of unfortunate events) . I've read each one of David Walliams' novels for children, and this is now probably in my top three (after Boy in the Dress and Billionaire Boy). Brave, David - I hope this does well. It will be a lovely Christmas Dad adaptation as well. Will you be playing Tootsie this time? And the author also manages to get a little dig aimed at Britain's Got Talent in there, mentioning TV talent shows. This was the sweetest, cutest little book ever. I am now proud to say that I am a David Walliams fan! Just as I am a Roald Dahl fan. Never read anything by David Williams before, I saw a review on Goodreads about this one so decided to try it out. It gives hope that tomorrow will be better and no matter how much life can be sometimes, the sun will rise again and wash away your sadness.

I've read each one of David Walliams' novels for children, and this is now probably in my top three (after 'Boy in the Dress' and 'Billionaire Boy').I've read them all on paper, but also now with my son in the car as audiobooks, and each time, Walliams himself acts as able and amusing narrator, with friends assisting with a few roles, bringing the story to life very well, his experience as actor and comedian keeping him very easy to listen to and laugh with. Was NOT Disappointed, enjoyed this one, not exactly 5 stars more likely 4.5 stars. The illustrations are a HOOT! :-) David Walliamsin "Keskiyön jengi" (Tammi, 2020) täytyi ottaa kesäiselle lukulistalle, sillä jos hyvä tuuri kävisi, saattaisi kirjasta osoittautua samanlaiseksi täysosumaksi kuin vanhat ja monikäyttöiset vinkkaussuosikit Gangsterimummi (2016) ja Poika ja mekko (2015).
