Džeinės Eir“ niekada neskaičiau, tad nelyginsiu šios knygos su jokia kita. Šitoje istorijoje pasakojama dviejų merginų itin artima draugystė. Dvi merginos- dvi istorijos-dvi paslaptys. Pirmasis įspūdis nuo pačių pirmų lapų buvo toks... šiltas, lengvas, raminantis... tas mėlynas viršelis ir rašytojos švelnus pasakojimo stilius užliūliavo mane palengva vesdamas link dviejų paslapčių atskleidimo. Nuo vieno skyriaus prie kito keliaujant susipažinau su įvairiausiais veikėjais. Ir visi jie priminė man kažkokius pažįstamus žmones. Nesugebu nupasakoti to šilto jausmo, kurį jaučiau visą laiką su šita knyga rankoje. Set in England in 1848, it’s full of romance and mystery, taking the form of a scavenger hunt in which the heroine, Amy Snow, follows a trail left behind in letters by her late friend and mentor, ebullient heiress Aurelia Vennaway. Seventeen-year-old Amy owes her life to Aurelia, who had found her as a newborn, abandoned in the snow on her wealthy family’s Surrey estate. Lord and Lady Vennaway had acceded to their daughter’s wishes in letting Amy grow up at Hatville Court but always resented her presence. Before Aurelia’s tragic early death from a heart ailment, she developed a clever way of ensuring Amy’s future livelihood while broadening her social horizons – and attempting to make up for her family’s hateful behavior.

It is a shame because the author clearly did her research and there are some delightful side characters I would have liked to see more of. Nothing but silence, and a crow lifting into the air on silky wings. The baby was very cold and weighed almost nothing. Aurelia turned and, as fast as her skirts allowed, she ran.

How does Amy’s journey to York alter her grief for Aurelia? What does the Louis Josslyn Capland represent to Amy ? How does her encounter with Louis and her implicit obligation to him, bring Amy’s relationship with Aurelia full circle? Why does Amy resent Aurelia’s final imperative, “Go to York”? How does Amy’s love for Henry threaten to topple her commitment to concluding Aurelia’s treasure hunt? What do Amy’s irritation and frustration suggest about her emergence as a person in her own right? How does the interrupted nature of her departure from Bath hint at the different forces at work in her life? Amy Snow is your first work of fiction. Please describe how the unforgettable opening image of the book—that of a newborn baby left in the snow—first came to you? This was such an entertaining novel. I loved both Aurelia and Amy. Even though, they weren't sisters by blood, they were sisters of the heart and it warmed my heart to see Aurelia do everything that she could to save Amy. Aurelia's parents were awful! I just wanted to punch Aurelia's mother!! They were so mean to Amy. I was so happy when Amy set upon her treasure hunt that was set-up by Aurelia. Through this treasure hunt we were able to get to know Aurelia better through letters that she left behind for Amy. It was refreshing to watch Amy mature through this time as well. She was such a nice girl and after what she had been through, I was hoping for wonderful things to happen to her. We also got to meet some interesting characters through this adventure. My favorite: Mrs. Riverthorpe. Now she was quite the character!!

The story follows Amy Snow, a foundling left in the snow and found by the neighborhood heiress, Aurelia. Raised in the kitchen but not a servant and educated alongside her benefactress but not a lady, Amy has no real family but Aurelia. When Aurelia dies, Amy is left a small legacy and a treasure hunt full of unexpected journeys, interesting people, and the chance at a life of her own. Even if I could tell you in person, how would I choose my words? We are not given a language for it, in our chaste society.” How does Aurelia’s premarital relationship with the gardener Robin defy social expectations for a young woman of her standing? How do the mores of this era, with its emphasis on female chastity rather than sexual pleasure, affect men and women differently? Engeland, 1831. Bella, light the fire in the Barley Room and take the lady’s bag there,” he instructs, resuming his normal pitch. “Might I recommend, miss, that you take supper in the lounge tonight? I would not suggest it except there is a blazing fire there and it will take a while for your room to reach a comfortable temperature. The lounge is quiet—the cold is keeping many at home—and, if you’ll forgive me, you look frozen to the bone, Miss...?”For those, who like historical fiction, this is an interesting tale about a baby found in the snow by the young daughter of the manor and the struggle to find her place in the world thereafter. Betwixt and between, neither servant or recognized as a family member. As Aurelia states “ I am not sure I have done you such a very great favor. I have made you… a misfit.” Amy ends up as Aurelia’s companion through a clever turn of events.

Aurelia dies young because of a heart defect and Amy is of course thrown out of the house right after the funeral. Officially Aurelia has left her only 10 pounds in her will, but Amy soon learns that there is much more - namely, a "treasure hunt", that the girls so liked to play with each other - Aurelia leaves Amy a trail of secret letters, that Amy must find first, and all the letters direct her to different places, different people, and eventually, to Aurelia's secret. Who is Amy going to meet on her adventure? Is she able to find on her own what Aurelia left her? As Amy navigates the strange new world of romantic attachments, she becomes aware to herself as a sexual being, an object of desire, and—as a wealthy woman—of possessing a new kind of social currency. Have members of your group talk about when and where they first experienced romantic love. How did it shape their feelings about love in general? How did the prospect of commitment affect their feelings? Consider discussing disappointments or unexpected discoveries in the course of their romantic journeys. Amy Snow as Jane Eyre. Amy Snow an orphan, an obscure, plain figure. From the beginning of this book i had Jane Eyre vibes all over. Clearly, Jane Eyre is my favourite book of all time and i was glad i stepped to Amy Snow's world as well. There are plenty of similarities in the two novels but very slight. It's not a retelling of Charlotte Bronte's book but rather a reminder of it. I liked quiet Amy for her struggles and misfortunes, for her mild character. I admired the way she moved into society quietly though decisively. Unfortunately, there was no mr Rochester but mr Garland could be a possible mr Rochester, only not in the way of Charlotte Bronte's byronic hero but slightly different. It’s pretty organic, I have to say. I think that, broadly speaking, writers tend to be planners or nonplanners and I am definitely one of the latter. I find that if I spend too much time at the start trying to think through what a story might be, it puts me in an intellectual frame of mind rather than a creative one and ideas soon dry up. By simply launching in at a starting point—whether that be a character, an image, or even a name—I am able to follow the idea where it wants to go and allow myself to be as surprised as anyone as to how it unfolds. Then, when I have that first draft, I can look at what works and what doesn’t work so well and adjust it accordingly. There was plenty of mystery and intrigue throughout, which mixed well with Amy and her experiences of travelling around the country on her own as a woman, and finding people who knew Aurelia and didn't judge Amy because of her past and accepted her for who she was. How does the character of Quentin Garland illustrate the old idiom: “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? How do Amy’s naive interactions with Mr. Garland serve as a romantic education of sorts?
