About this deal

Whether or not to go grey is, of course, a deeply personal and emotional choice; one that can be defining in how we see ourselves ageing. So when it begins to happen, the most important thing is that we feel empowered to have a choice; to be armed with the right information on how to get the best out of our hair, whatever the shade. And then to be prepared for compliments incoming… Apply liberally throughout wet hair. Lather. Leave on at least 3-5 minutes for the first use. Leave on up to 3 minutes for each subsequent use. Rinse well. To tame and blend away wiry greys, follow with Defy Grey Conditioner. For optimal grey blending results, finish with Defy Grey Foam. I’ve been dyeing my hair – mainly to keep on top of my greys – for more years than I can remember. I was somewhere in my late teens when hair colouring was done for fun and feeling ‘grown up’ rather than necessity. But recently I grew tired of the upkeep in maintaining a look of youthfulness and perfection I was far from feeling, so I gave up on the dye. Amazingly it didn’t take long for me to notice a change in my look – definitely after the second wash, my greys were no longer silver but warming to a soft caramel. The sharp metallic glint that best resembled sparkly lametta on a Christmas tree was now gone; in its place, an interesting colour palette of textured browns. I can say that the shampoo itself doesn’t have much of a scent at all, the consistency is quite liquidy and is a shimmery brown in colour. It lathers well once applied to wet hair. It is recommended to leave on for 5 minutes before washing out upon first use, and then 3 minutes for each consecutive use.

Discover a simple way to blend away grey. Formulated with coffee extract and GreyBlend™ Technology, Defy Grey Brunette Blending Blow Dry Foam reacts with heat to transform greys for multi-dimensional brunette. Hair is left soft and manageable. If, like me you are trying to hold off dying your hair for now, give this a whirl. Formulated with coffee extract and GreyBlend ™ technology, Defy Grey Brunette Blending Shampoo gradually blends away first greys by infusing warm brunette tones into grey strands for a naturally blended brunette look.DISCLAIMER: NOT A ROOT TOUCH UP PRODUCT. Not intended for use on patchy areas or high levels of grey. Avoid intentionally working into scalp roots/partline to avoid skin staining. Ingredients Around the temple area I had quite a few grey silvery strands that are starting to blend in a little better. I suspect with continued use they may blend in even more. I’m not going to lie though, it isn’t a miracle worker, nothing compares to actually dying your hair. I have tried calling John Frieda who have sworn up and down it doesn't dye the hair and will wash out eventually and they have also sent me out some Violet Crush shampoo to try and tone the yellow down and that has done nothing either. We all have goals in life don’t we. One of my more trivial goals was to get to 40 without dying my hair. I made it, and I was thrilled about that, but I still didn’t really want to get into that routine of having to dye my hair. After I first wrote about my grey hair quandary, I chanced upon a new haircare range by John Frieda, and it was quite the miraculous discovery. Torn between colouring and not colouring, I realised there was a mid ground solution I needed to give a go, and to my surprise the lovely folk at John Frieda agreed.

I can’t really comment on these products individually about the effects as I did use them in combination with each other so will give my opinion at the end of this review. The foam itself doesn’t have a scent and is a light beige in colour. Make sure to wash your hands after applying to the hair or it will stain your skin ! It is easily spread throughout the hair, although I did concentrate on the front of my hairline as this is where I have most Grey’s.I don’t wash my hair all that much – once a week, or twice if I’m particularly enthusiastic about my self care. So over the following month (and several washes) my regular hair care was replaced by the Defy Grey. I might try the John Frieda shampoo too, sounds good, does it make much change to the ‘natural’ hair colour? The information again is the same for this product. The directions for this product are as follows :-

So, I used the John Frieda Defy Grey shampoo and hair mousse twice in a misguided attempt to see what my hair would look like without so much grey hair ( my hair is pretty much white all around my face now as I have been growing it out for a few years). The reason I'm nervous is not liking the results of some highlights/lowlights I had done, don't know which, just for a change. I asked for a caramel shade, thinking it would be a lighter shade of brown than my own, but it just looked red. We tried again next time after the first grew out, with another shade, but that looked red to me, too. I hated it and it really didn't suit me. Both the shampoo and conditioner smell amazing to use. Not too dissimilar to a premium fragrance, the divine scent creates a luxurious experience from what could be a mundane task. The silky texture of the chestnut shade shampoo feels lovely too and it lathers into a rich foam easily, and even though the product is coloured, it doesn’t leave a mark on my hands.I hate the colour my hair invariably goes with dyes or semi permanents. Hate it. I like my natural colour! Overall I am impressed with this range of products, I haven’t seen anything else like it before. I am happy with how it has left my hair feeling, there is a slight improvement in the shine that my hair has. I do agree that it adds nice rich tones to the hair and has definitely helped to blend out where my hair has grown out from my last dye job. I do think this will be great to prolong my dyed hair for a few more weeks in-between dyings and I will continue to use it . It does leave my hair looking healthier and more manageable. For those who are also looking for a low-commitment solution to covering their first greys, the new Defy Grey range is a hassle-free way of helping to blend away whites on brunette hair with less than 50% grey. The clever combination of coffee extract and GreyBlend technology works by depositing a natural-looking brown tone on the pigment-less strands of hair, which then blends with your own shade from the first use. It’s difficult to tell whether the products have worked when you’re looking at wet hair, so I had to dry it off to see properly. I could see some obvious greys still, around my ears mainly and then some wispy strands along the top. I guessed I probably didn’t apply it so well or washed it away in the process. But interestingly, it seemed not to look so grey. It wasn’t an obvious change, but I was sure something was different.
