About this deal
Bottom Line? Overall, I really liked it. š¤·š¼āāļø Max was my flavor of j/p hot, Cassidy was my flavor of sweet. The story was solid. I plan to read the next book. But the unnecessary prison story line and the need for an editor to remove the excess put this at 3.5 stars for me. š

I loved Moody Broody Max and Cute Clever Cassidyā¤ļøMore than anyone else,I resonated with Toni because just like him,I'm the go-to person for innuendos in my friends circle so much so that if I'm being serious, people are still trying to figure out what's the joke thereš
Advance Praise
Fern is submissive and naĆÆve. Sheās kind of a boring heroine, but sheās not bad. Clay is a typical dominant alpha-hole, he's nothing special as a hero, I like his brothers better, but heās not bad, either. If you are anything like me and you fell in love with the Kids of the District in Book # 1- Facing Us, then you'll know that the expectations were pretty high for the sequel. Having gone through the myriad of emotions at the complexity of "Facing Us", I wasn't sure how Nicci Harris would top that but, I was pleasantly surprised to note how different, yet alike the two books were. "Our Thing" was quite a turn from the darkness of "Facing Us" but kept the signature 'contemporary romance' vibe which was enjoyable. So, even as I stand in the shadows with him, as people get hurtā¦ as people dieā¦Ā I refuse to let him believe heās nothing more than a piece in his Familyās corrupt empire. Chapter 10 ~ "I love you Max Butcher," I whisper. "I don't deserve you" āhe presses his lips to mineā "Cassidy Slater. I'm keeping you anyway. " ā„ļø i normally love a dark romance novel containing taboo subjects (really, itās often what i look for often in a book) but i donāt know exactly yet what it is about this one that made me feel super uneasy (well actually i do know, but it seems that iām so frustrated with this book that i canāt properly articulate it)
Start out as a caterpillar, you then spend weeks inside a cocoon where you grow and go through so much heartache. But in the end you are a beautiful butterfly. The book ends on such a tension, sad cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see what's going to happen next. Book triggers include a graphic rape scene and a pregnancy as a result of that rape. It also has a miscarriage ā ļø he feels very predatory in the way that he seemingly never asks for consent when engaging in sexual acts (which seem to me to be very rough) (EVEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER HE SEES THE TAPE OF HER VERY BRUTAL RAPE)
Our Thing Summary
Cassidy is a focused ballerina with a crush on Max Butcher, she has watched him from a far but never spoken to him, until her birthday party where she gets drunk and ends up telling him how hot he is. The characters in "Our Thing" are charismatic with bold personalities that tug at your heartstrings. I quite enjoyed the contrast between Cassidy, the district's sweetheart, and the total alpha male vibe from the district's most notorious bad boy Max Butcher. "Our Thing" is good girl meets bad boy, District style and I loved every minute of it. Georgia Hart and Rupert Channing narrate this audiobook and I really enjoyed their performances and were fantastic in bringing the Ballerina and the Butcher Boy to life! You're an asset. Leverage. This is what they do. It's the long game. It doesn't look that bad at first, which is how you miss it. It's a favour. It's a kindness. It's a sponsorship. But then they have claws in every part of your life and one day, you sit up and wonder how youād gotten in so deep. . ." When a little deer, Fawn Harlow, arrives on his front door step looking for her father. Itās as if she has just walked into the lions den.
Thereās a couple of twists, one I saw coming and one I didnāt. And that one ruined me. Like snot dribbling, ugly crying got me. And that frigginā letter. I WAS A MESS!!! His Pretty Little Burden is the 4th book in the Kids of the District Series by Nicci Harris. It end on a HFN cliffy and Clay and Fawn's story will conclude in the next book. The previous books do not need to be read first, but I would recommend it. The story is told in first person, from dual perspective.I wonāt ignore the fact that I wasnāt a fan of Cassidy, even though I get why she was the way she was. But what I will say is by the end of both books I felt every emotion with her. And because of Nicciās superb writing, I got her, I got every annoying, naive, vulnerable, needy piece of her and I wholeheartedly changed my opinion of her.
