About this deal

The Blackboard Jungle sees Hancock playing a young English master, attempting to tame a class of unruly pupils. If I'd been angry or something like that, I look at this and think, yes, that's very funny, unfortunately. In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies.

His legacy lives on, not just in his work, but in every single sitcom you watch on television today. In this five-part series, US happiness expert and positive psychologist Michelle Gielan and British journalist and author Oliver Burkeman explore ways to become truly happier, backed up by scientific evidence. But Hancock is worried; after all, when shooting started Sid's production company didn't even have a movie camera! When Billy can’t find the informant, he wonders if Kate is secretly harboring her, since the two grew close during Kate's weeks undercover. Then he brings the house down with an apparent mistake, saying 'in our own personal wives' instead of 'lives'; he almost breaks into laughter himself before continuing his shouts of 'Nay!

I first became acquainted with Tony Hancock in 2001 when my father ( a huge fan of Hancock ) played for me an audiobook of the original radio series. It was on the set of that final UK TV series that Hancock met Damaris Hayman, who was often sent to look after him and would frequently read him bedtime stories. The series burst onto BBC Radio in 1954, introducing the country to 'the lad himself', Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock, who famously lived at 23 Railway Cuttings, East Cheam. Sid James was very fond of Tony and they had a real connection, but the die was cast - Galton and Simpson would develop a new sitcom for Sid, Citizen James. Hancock's Half Hour pioneered every comedic genre you could imagine, almost effortlessly hitting every mark, but its true deft was introducing intelligent, subtle and surreal humour to the comedy landscape, as we see in the 1959 episode The Set That Failed.

Although not officially a spin-off from Hancock's Half Hour, his character in it is all but identical. There are too many great episodes to list but the following ones I would name every time on my list of vintage Hancock: "The Missing Page," "Sid in Love," "Twelve Angry Men," "The Cold," "The Two Murderers," "Football Pools," "Competitions: How to Win Money and Influence People," "The Photographer," "The Train Journey," "The Reunion," "The Big Night," "The Immigrant," "The Economist," "The Poison Pen Letters," "The Set That Failed," "The Cruise," "The New Nose" and others. Hancock'a Half Hour was a seminal radio show, that was key to the popularity of radio comedy especially for the BBC. Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. Main Hi Kahaani Hoon”, an Audible Original is a weekly storytelling show of 20 episode from Audible, written-created-performed by Major Akhill Pratap; an ex-Army Officer popularly known as The Soldier and The Storyteller. Most memorable is a scene in which Tony finds a young boy, who he usually despises for disrupting his Punch and Judy performances, standing bedraggled, having been caught in a terrible downpour on the seafront. And, both Jools Holland and Peter Doherty (a lifelong Hancock fan) independently turned the title into touching ballads in tribute to the comedy star. The first show, “The Last of the McHancocks” is a good opener, although most of the humour relies on some sense of Scotland and the Scottish ‘character’ (filled with rather funny stereotypes of course so not for the sensitive Scot).

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. It is an iconic photograph but it doesn't really convey the lasting appeal of Hancock's character, which essentially lies within a certain childlike vulnerability that he always managed to convey, even in the character's most arrogant moments.

Between 1954 and 1959, BBC Radio recorded 102 episodes of the hugely popular comedy classic, Hancock's Half Hour. It is a bit hard to judge the early episodes of "Hancock's Half Hour" as the episodes from the first and second series are mainly missing.More Hamburger icon An icon used to represent a menu that can be toggled by interacting with this icon. In this one, Tony is left a Scottish castle by his deceased uncle McHancock, and when he goes to claim it, he ends up doing battle with Seamus McNasty in the Highland Games. During two years in the same ward, they listened to comedy shows together and also wrote a series of their own, creating a radio room in a linen cupboard. First broadcast live in 1959 as part of Tony Hancock's 4th BBC TV Series, these rare recordings are made available for the first time in over fifty years.
