EXPLAIN that Robert McCloskey illustrated all of the eight books that he authored, and ask your children to draw one of the scenes from another story written by Robert McCloskey as you read the scene out loud. That afternoon Matthew and Joshua, already book lovers, were happy to oblige their little brothers’ request. It’s easy to forget this now, without comparing Blueberries For Sal with others of its era, but the character of Sal was refreshingly low mimetic.Since we moved, we are fortunate enough to have a couple of blueberry bushes on our property that we were able to enjoy this season. We do very much hope that this will be a temporary measure and look forward to resuming trading internationally in the future.
